I think this is why I was so hungry.....

Last week my DBF made some comments about me being too skinny. He said I used to have a nice body but now I look like Lindsay Lohan with muscle (not cool). I have noticed that my breasts have got a little smaller, but I have less flab than I did a few months ago (and a six-pack). I'm 5'0" and weight 112, which is isn't really that light for my height, although for some reason I can see bones I didn't know I had. I got my body fat tested again last week and it went from 17.9% (six weeks ago) to 16.2%, which is pretty low.

I tried eating more protein for a couple days early last week, and I was still ravenous all day and even more nauseous than usual. I think my calories in (about 1800) are way less than calories out, this is why I'm loosing body fat. I can do one of two things: eat more or workout less. I usually do about 45 min of high intensity cardo 5 times a week and I lift 3 times a week. I think I might not need to do as much cardio. I haven't been to the gym since Wendsday of last week, and I really haven't been as hungry, but I'm eating the way I usually do. I actually went from breakfast to lunch w/o needing a snack today. (I usually need two or three snacks btwn breakfast and lunch). I have a body pump class tonight that I'm planning on going to tonight, just cuz I'm starting to feel lazy....

Hi, my stats are fairly similar to yours... 5'2", 115 pounds, 16.1% bodyfat, and I really do minimal amounts of cardio:

Monday: 20-25 min elliptical/treadmill
Tuesday: 45 min spin
Wednesday: 30 min step class
Thursday: interval step class (approx. 25 min cardio)
Friday: 1 hour spin
Saturday: 15-20 min treadmill

I eat a lot of whole grain carbs/veggies and try to lift as heavy as I can...I am not losing weight on the scale but bodyfat% still seems to be going down. I would cut down on the cardio, keep up the weights, keep the calories consistent and see what happens.

I'm no fitness expert, but I definitely think 5 days of 45-minutes-long high intensity cardio is too much, particularly if your goal is not to burn fat. Maybe you could try cutting it back to 30 minutes of low/moderate intensity, 3 days a week? I don't know what your normal diet looks like, but adding more fiber and good fats to your diet could also help stave off your hunger. For example, for breakfast I'll eat two slices of Ezekiel bread (a really yummy sprouted-grain bread with lots of fiber and protein) and some natural peanut butter and sliced bananas, and that alone keeps me going for hours. BTW, I don't think there's anything wrong with needing to eat 2 snacks in between breakfast and lunch as long as they are clean, healthy snacks (occasional junky snacks are okay, too!). My "diet" philosophy is that as long as I am eating clean foods I don't really need to worry about how much, or how often I am eating. All things in relative moderation, of course.

I agree w/ Annabel--it's tough on your body doing that much high intensity work. You might not feel it now but it'll catch up to you when you get older, in your joints and back, injuries, etc. (from personal experience). It sounds like your body is telling you to take it easy so good for you for listening.

The odd thing is is that I've been doing this amount of cardio for the past year. I don't know why now all of a sudden it's making me loose weight. I guess I just don't have much more fat left to burn off.

I usually use an elliptical, because I get really bored on a treadmill (rather run outside). I just kept increasing the resistance and intensity until it felt like I was working hard ie. sweating a lot, breathing heavy, ect....I was doing this for 35-45 minutes, about 5 times a week.... I didn't really see a correlation between my hungriness and cardio, until by BF pointed out that I was getting too "skinny" (meaning he can see my muscles under my skin,).....I noticed what he was talking about, but I don't think I look that skinny, just muscular. I look the best when my body fat is around 18%...16% is just too low for me.....

....so I guess I'll cut back down to 3 days a week, and lower the intensity a bit....kinda looking forward to it.... my class tonight is a weight training class, and I plan on skipping the elliptical afterward...maybe I'll throw in a little haagen-dazs tonight too....I want my boobs back....hehe

If we really listen to our bodies they tell us what & how much we need to eat. Like you I'm quite small (5'1", under 110lbs), but VERY active. My caloric needs average 2700-3000/day so I'm ravenous all the time and eat almost constantly, but when my schedule eases up so does my appetite.

Boy, do I know where you're coming from w/ that last comment. However, most women around my age are complaining about everything sagging, but as a 32A its not an issue for me. ;-) I only where a bra for the sake of decency w/ some clothes since I no longer have anything to "lift & separate".

Edit: Oops! Freudian slip or wishful thinking? Its been awhile since I've even been a 32A. Make that 30". :-P

Could that also be the reason I'm so hungry all the time?

What kind of information would I get from that type of test?

Thye measure your oxygen input and that tells them how many calories you burn at rest.
