Buying a bike?

My neighbor has a mountain bike for sale that I'm seriously considering purchasing. It's an 18 speed mountain bike and she's only ridden it twice. Mind you, I haven't been on a bike in YEARS but have been looking longingly at the bike riders near my neighborhood and have been wanting to explore some of the trails we have around here (after I'm recovered of course).

Anybody have any tips or is there anything I should know? Thanks!

No idea, but maybe Laura (cbear) could help if she's around.

Well, I bought the bike. It was only $80 and I figure if I really get into it, I can justify getting a better one. I took it around the neighborhood for a spin and holy cow... riding a bike is harder than I remember! The last time I was on a bike (a real bike, not a spin or stationary), it was a pink Huffy with tassles coming out of the handles and a basket in the back. I probably looked like a complete spaz riding around the neighborhood stopping and starting with a death grip on the brake. *giggle* It'll sit in my garage for a couple of months while I'm recouping but I look forward to feeling less awkward on it.

I was going to tell you that if it wasn't too expensive to just go for it! Sounds like you did it - congrats! All I can tell you is just keep practicing. And have some fun while you're at it . . . go buy some of those pretty pink tassles for your new bike!

Ummm... yeah. :) If anyone's going to wipe out in her own driveway, it's going to be me. I will definitely do that as soon as I can.

Yay! I don't have any tips, as I recently acquired a mountain bike myself (and it's been awhile since I've ridden anything extensively!), and am still testing out when to switch the resistance, etc, etc depending on the route I'm on. Just wanted you to know you're not alone!!!
