I know I sound like an old record about this...and, I know I talk about how important it is to appreciate your body for what it does more than what it looks like so I do for the most part.

I don't think you're cheating. You worked hard to achieve an impressive weight loss and have maintained it. You can't do anything 'natural' to make the skin snap back and as a result can't fully appreciate & enjoy the fruits of your long & dedicated labour. You're not some gal who's having a bunch of fat sucked out because she's too lazy or undisciplined to make the effort to make positive lifestyle changes - who will continue to carry on as before & thus regain the weight it cost so much to remove. To me what you're doing is just a more extreme version of buying new clothes that fit your trimmed down body. More importantly you're doing it because of how you feel about yourself not other people's opinions of how you look.

I'm glad to hear your recovery is continuing smoothly. Take care. Enjoy that shower tomorrow.

I don't know if you feel the same way right now w/ the pain but I think your decision to have surgery was a good one for you.

Hear, hear!! You hit the nail on the head on all points. I was raised a liberal feminist, w/ two older sisters that are in-your-face, militant feminists and it bothered me that when DH & I were planning our family so many people considered staying at home some sort of cop out. (I'm happy to say both sisters spent time as SAHM as did the mother that raised them to be feminists.) I bet you, like many of us, when asked what you do & you reply that you're a SAHM they respond w/ a comment like, " Oh, so you don't work." Feminism is truly about women having the rights and freedom to make decisions about themselves for themselves. I don't think Kel should hand in here feminist membership card either, but should wave it in the face of anybody says she should and tell them not to be so narrow-minded.

Imagine teaching weight training classes 2X/week that include some women that never lift more than 8lb. dumbells and have bigger muscles w/ more definition than you do even though you lift heavier & more often, do WAY more cardio and don't eat any of the junk you see them eating regularly. Plus they're the same age or older.

I'm proud to have watched this occur under my guidance BUT its still a little frustrating that that no matter how hard I work at it I'll always have a physique that makes people comment regularly that they're amazed at how strong I am because I don't look it. (I know they intend it as compliment on my strength, but sometimes I can't help viewing in the same light as your rant.)

I should let you in on a little secret Jean. When I was younger not only would I have done anything to have smaller hips & bigger boobs but wished desperately that I was exotic looking w/ straight hair, dark skin & almond eyes because being a little blue eyed, blonde was soooooo BLAH & I hated that people were always saying how "cute" I was (OMG, I hated hearing that word!). I wanted to be beautiful and exotic, not cute. :-P

I keep thinking at some point I'll be too old to be called "cute".

There are worse things than being called "cute".

You know and I don't even hate how I look as much as I feel like I shouldn't have to work so hard to look the way I do (as if working out hard could ever make me tall and lean!).
