When I left my job to get married and move to California, I really wanted my husband to come in in his dress uniform and pick me up and walk out. He'd already deployed, though, and with my luck, he would have thrown out his back.
I could have better answered this question shortly after I saw the movie almost a year ago, but I'll try to remember. If I recall correctly, both of them were annoying and whiny - the wife especially. I don't generally get into a movie unless I can somehow empathize with the character. I couldn't stand either character.
This is also the reason I hated Sideways. I thought Paul Giamatti played a deplorable person (spectacularly, no doubt) and when I'm not emotionally invested in a character, I don't care what happens to them.
