Workout Plan

Since I can't really work out right now, I spend a lot of time thinking about working out and am trying to formulate a plan for what I'll do when I'm cleared to strength train again. I've been thinking a lot about my past workouts and trying to ascertain what worked, what didn't, and why.
Prior to surgery, I was doing 2 strength training sessions per week, total body each time. I was also doing 5-6 days of cardio per week, sessions lasting between 30 and 50 minutes. I saw some gains in terms of strength, but not a whole lot. Doing that much cardio started to become a chore and I found I wasn't enjoying it much. I also didn't notice any changes in my body.
I'm thinking that this time around, I'm going to do more weight training and less cardio. I'm not sure what sort of change I'll be able to effect in my new body, but my goals are the same as before - decrease bodyfat and increase muscle/strength.
My initial plan was to do total body 3x per week and 3-4 days of cardio. I had lunch with my fitness competitor friend yesterday and she suggested the following schedule:
Day 1: Chest, Tricep, Shoulders w/ cardio
Day 2: Legs no cardio
Day 3: Core, Abs and/or Glutes w/cardio
Day 4: Back and Bicep w/ cardio
Day 5: Cardio only
For each body part day, I'd do two exercises per body part and 2-3 sets.
Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks in advance!

Do you mean the plan my friend suggested?
My client load is so light right now that I just may be able to do some classes again. I also want to take up running again. I have given myself a flexible deadline of September to decide if I can or want to train for the January half marathon so I'd like to get some runs in before then to see how I'm feeling.
I generally do cardio second, if for no other reason than safety.
I have never done the multiple sets/exercises per body part once a week so I guess I'll give it a shot. You all seem to think it's a good plan. :)
