What I've Learned...
| Fri, 08-05-2005 - 11:57am |
Jen's post about what we like about this board asked what we've taught other people and I know I personally have no idea. :) Maybe we should do a thread about what we've learned from each gymrat.
What do you all think?

I've been thinking about that post, and I couldn't begin to list the things I have learned from this board.
Here's what I've learned from the gymrat regulars here:
Jean - There is no end to what you can do with a ball, BOSU, or a push-up. Her posts always cause me mental gymnastics as I try to visualize what she's talking about. Also learned that I'm not the only gymrat who loves to bake!
Jen - I've learned about fair trade chocolate and other "sustainable living" items. I've also learned to be more open-minded when I read her posts. I often don't agree with what she says (and this is usually about non-gymrat related matters, btw) and it truly makes me think and evaluate my own opinion (which is a good thing!).
Sol - I've learned that if I ever visit our northern neighbors, I want to go to her house to eat! She's taught me a lot about body image and self-acceptance. I've also learned about professionalism in the PT world.
Undone - Her sense of humor always makes me laugh. I've learned from her that if you want something, nothing should get in your way - not even snooty cliquey Jazzercise people.
Kiervin - I'll never forget her post to me about enjoying the journey (when I was complaining about my lack of weight loss). It's something I repeat to myself often.
Millcreek - I've learned about being a new mom and what a commitment it takes to be a new mom and a gymrat. I admire her for working out at her desk.
Somerandomthoughts - Between Some and Sol, I've learned about the PT industry in Canada which is interesting to me. I've also learned about some interesting types of foods thanks to her food journals.
Paula - I've learned there that's no shame in having junk food as a gymrat. :) She's taught me that it's okay not to eat perfectly all the time.
If I've left anyone out, I apologize... I do appreciate the board and the community here very, very much. You all have been invaluable to me in my weight loss efforts, tweaking my diet, my running program, and my recovery. If it weren't for the support and friendship I have here, I certainly wouldn't be logging on multiple times a day.
*hugs* to you all.
That is the way I feel. In the post below I just listed the cls because I didn't want to list people and forget somebody. I know I've learned from everybody here, and I have so much more to learn from them. Ya'll are my source, I know i can come here and ask a question about anything and somebody is going to know the answer. I know I'm gonna be buggin' millcreek and Jean in a couple months when I get frustrated with breastfeeding, and I know that I have a lot to learn. One day I might want to be a certified trainer and I will be questioning gymrat.
I miss doubleblade too. Where did she go?
Paula
You are always welcome to yell in my direction for nursing info as well.

Wow! Yes, I'll definitly be bugging you for info too! I know I looked for your answers about other mothering questions I've had. It is so cool that you changed policy so mothers could bring their babies to work.
Paula
Good to see you here!
There's so much I've learned from everyone here and really admire things about you all. I'd hate to list and forget someone.
i agree about everyone making good contributions, even people who have only posted once. i've definitely learned a lot from our regulars, and from a lot of people who haven't been here for very long. and even if someone just posts once with a basic question, it benefits the board because there are always others out there reading who have the same question and it gives us a new opportunity to help out anyone who may have the same question but not want to post it.
i agree about not walking on eggshells, and i hope no one does walk on eggshells around here. i hope everyone feels free to say whatever they want to say, and to respond to whatever they feel needs to be responded to, as long as it is done in a respectful way. but i think it's pretty obvious that i'd feel that way, it's not like i'm shy about speaking my mind.
