Hi all, I've posted here a few times and got great advice! I figured I'd ask for help here. Ok, so...My gym is very popular and trendy...Most people that work out there are really in shape (funny). I'm not overweight I want to lose 5 pounds but thats about it. I know this is completly silly but I feel a little self conscious about my gym clothes! Everyone wear nice brand name outfits/sneakers and I wear old clothes because I can't afford to buy all the expensive stuff. I recently hit a big sale and bought some new items like nike/addidas/puma (only because they were 70-80% off)...But I'm still confused about whether or not I should wear this items together or is it bad to cross dress? I know this is just so silly but if you guys have any suggestions I'm open to it...
Thank you in advance!

This would be a good time to remind yourself what you're doing at the gym... :)
Lots of people wear old clothes when they workout (myself included). Wear whatever is comfortable and makes you feel good. Your gym time is YOUR time and the only person you should be concerning yourself with is YOU.
i don't know that we are the best people to ask about this. none of us are too concerned with workout fashion and none of us live in the kind of place where all the beautiful people work out. when i used to go to the gym in NYC i felt like an ugly duckling compared to all of the beautiful people in their perfect designer workout outfits, so i know what you are talking about. see, this would be a good time to have undone here to give fashion advice!
personally, i think you should just wear whatever you want as long as it's appropriate for the activity (that is, not sandals to go on the elliptical) and not worry about anyone else. i agree with kel.
for what it's worth, i think even the beautiful people "cross dress" in terms of they don't necessarily wear all nike head to toe. they usually match their tank top to their pants or shorts, but they may wear a nike top and pants and adidas shoes.
Other than what Jen and Kel said which I agree with--wear what's comfortable.
That would depend on how much clothes you wear to the gym!
I am probably the last person to give fashion advice considering I wear whatever I find on sale.
That said, I think it is okay to wear an entire outfit of the same brand or to cross dress. The only time it is bad to wear an "outfit" is if you are a straight man. Other than that, wear what suits your style otherwise you'll be too worried to workout. Check out some fitness mags to get some ideas, too.

I just joined a gym primarily to lose weight, but mostly to increase my cardiovascular health. I was very self-conscious at first. But most people are so intuned to their own work out they don't pay any attention to me whatsoever. And those who do, have been nothing but supportive. I try to wear as light as possible clothing, but comfortable! I have a couple of t-shirts that I got as an incentive gift from my employer, and just some plain old Kmart shorts. These tshirts are awesome, because they are so lightweight. And shoes I don't pay attention to fashion, I want to wear my most comfortable pair possible! Most of the skinny minnies at the gym also seem to wear what's comfortable for them. I don't see them as being fashion concious per say, they just wear what's appropriate for their workout.

Did I tell you that a friend of mine went to the gym with two left shoes the other day?
that's interesting about you and brands, do you do that with your street clothes too? would you wear a top and bottom from different designers?
i also don't like to wear anything with an obvious brand name. when i went to the skateboarding clinic on sunday, etnies had a table there giving away tons of free stuff. they wanted to give me stickers and tee shirts and all kinds of stuff with "ETNIES" printed huge on it. i told them that i appreciated that they support the clinic, but i try not to wear stuff with logos on it. (that's like blasphemy in the world of action sports, where for the professionals it's all about getting sponsored and having your own signature shoes, clothes, board, etc. because that's where the money is, there's not that much money in actually doing your sport. likewise, for the little people it's all about showing off your favorite athlete's signature models, having the right brand name equipment etc. the whole culture is very brand-name oriented, more so than other types of sports it seems.)
so anyway, she convinced me to take a plain white tee with just a small etnies logo on the sleeve and i get home and find out that it's printed on my favorite tee shirt in the whole wide world - the american apparel classic girl tee!! i could not be any more in love with an inanimate object than i am with this tee shirt, it's the best article of clothing ever made. i have probably spent over $100 buying that tee in various colors and now i got a white one for free! i was psyched. i also got a trucker hat with only a very small logo on it. yay free swag! that clinic was such a good value for only $35 when you consider the price of admission to the skatepark, the free stuff, plus 3 hours of instruction and having the park practically to yourself.
