confused about gym clothes...

Hi all, I've posted here a few times and got great advice! I figured I'd ask for help here. Ok, so...My gym is very popular and trendy...Most people that work out there are really in shape (funny). I'm not overweight I want to lose 5 pounds but thats about it. I know this is completly silly but I feel a little self conscious about my gym clothes! Everyone wear nice brand name outfits/sneakers and I wear old clothes because I can't afford to buy all the expensive stuff. I recently hit a big sale and bought some new items like nike/addidas/puma (only because they were 70-80% off)...But I'm still confused about whether or not I should wear this items together or is it bad to cross dress? I know this is just so silly but if you guys have any suggestions I'm open to it...

Thank you in advance!

Lol, I do the same thing, I have to buy the entire outfit as a set because I can't put them together myself. I just look at the maniquins. I have figured out how to look at the outfits at the expensive store, and then go to old navy or Charlette Rousse and put together the outfit cheaper. As far as gym clothes, I either have to buy the entire outfit or just wear black shorts with a tank.

I just finished reading everyone's posts so far & I think you REALLY picked the wrong board to ask this. Everyone here appears to be vying for the title of "Least Fashionable Gym Rat", which I must add I have a very good shot at (my son insists I'm a hippy - that gives a sense of just how fashionable i am).

Anyhoo... if this is a concern for you i cetainly won't make light of it. I understand somewhat as one of my gyms is ultra-trendy, the big brand there being lululemon (I refuse to spend that kind of money on clothes myself though - I'm the clearance rack queen). I would just approach your workout wear in the same way you would any other outfit: is it appropriate for you chosen activity; do the colours match/coordinate; does it fit & flatter your figure (love the skin your in). I don't think mixing & matching logos is a problem, but given that I actively boycott fashion mags & that industry I'm far from an expert.

Good luck & take care.

Geez, maybe I reluctantly get the title of Most fashionable then!

I own a pile of lululemon stuff that I spluged on. I also own a pile of really nice Nike stuff when one of my ex's got a $300 employee store credit, didn't want to use it himself and let me go nuts. That said, I also own a bunch of Old Navy girls' bootcut pants ($12/pair) and I have a lot of lululemon knockoff stuff called Bongo Athletica that I got at a store called Urban Planet that all cost under $15 and is really trendy and comfy (although not as high tech as lulu)

Oh, and I mix and match all the time, but the ONE combo I will never wear together is Nike and Adidas...it's a me thing :P

I bought these pants today:

Now I figured out why all the women go to the trade show!!! FOR THE CLOTHES!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the doors to the trade show opened, the women just made a huge massive stampede for all the clothing booths.

Speaking of looks and clothes, I saw this woman whose name tag said she was an instructor..and she was so freakin' scary... bleached blonde hair, overtanned, huge fake boobs spilling out of her tiny designer top, brand new shoes...if I went to a class and saw her at the front, I swear I would just leave.

Those pants look so cute. I can't wear pants unless it is cold, but I guess if I were in canada...
