So many of us use the BOSU, stability boards, ball, etc. for unstable surfaces.

Those are all great, but I fell right off a step with 2 risers on each side! That is how I sprained my ankle.
LOL!
That can be an unstable surface!!

I just did a workshop this morning that was called Extreme Balance Training and my feet hurt SO BAD. It included BOSU's, Extreme Balance boards 9http://www.athleteconditioning.com/securestore/c53880p9540915.2.html) and Agility Pods (http://www.athleteconditioning.com/securestore/c53880p16335590.2.html) Fit Balls (http://www.athleteconditioning.com/securestore/c53876p16457165.2.html) and Core Pole + BOSU (http://www.athleteconditioning.com/securestore/c219500p16459703.2.html)

My feet hurt on the BOSU, if I'm on it too long.

I thought the core pole was REALLY hard. (well I was also really tired and hungry) It is hard to keep good form because what we were doing was holding the core pole bands with a circle of BOSU's and we'd do stuff like jump with both feet onto the bosu, then clockwise in a circle to every BOSU in the circle.

This is the pod:

http://www.jumpusa.com/balance_disc_balance_pod.html (blue thing) We did lunges and squats and everything gets harder with 1 leg then finally eyes closed.

Can you kneel on top of the stability ball? He showed us a video of people JUMPING from a high ledge/mat to STANDING on top of a ball. And then he jumped, standing to several balls! OMG.

The guy in the video got on the ball by kind of pushing up into a standing position from kneeling. According to the presenter, the guy in the video was a professional downhill skiier. And yes, he had 4 or 5 balls in a row and jumped from ball to ball. At least the presenter then also showed a video of the same guy wiping out while ball jumping ;)

I emailed you this afternoon, did you get it?

the floor can be an unstable surface if you close your eyes. when i'm waiting for food to cook or whatever, i like to stand on one foot and close my eyes and try to balance as long as possible. when i lose balance, i switch to the other leg.

also, i think with the current trend toward balance training in fitness, more people should ditch the BOSU and rocker boards, etc. and just get out and have fun with sports that require balance. the guy selling balance boards at DCAC was impressed when i got on his demo model and balanced easily the first time - but it's not surprising at all for someone who skateboards, which is what the balance boards were originally designed to replicate. personally, i'd rather be outside skateboarding than in the gym on a balance board.

I've started having the class close their eyes on different moves since I did Jay Blahnik's two classes on BOSU.

"my life unbalanced" - that's a great name for a skateboarding blog. i'm all about blogging these days.

i thought of another everyday balance challenge. when i ride the metro i stand without holding onto (or leaning against) anything and see how long i can balance without moving my feet.
