Last night was rough.

Well, any calories I torched this morning at the all-Spin gym were eradicated by my hideous eating habits.

The gym itself was really nice but it is really a niche thing - there was no weight room, JUST a huge area with about 40 bikes. You couldn't belong to just that gym, you'd obviously have to have another membership where you could do strength stuff. The class itself was good, but no better than the Spin class I take on Tuesdays from another Johnny G-certified instructor at "my" gym. The instructor at Quad did do a couple of illegal moves - she didn't follow the RPM guidelines correctly and there was some one-handed stuff. But nothing extremely bad like putting one leg on the handlebar.

I then had lunch with another ex-bf of mine. I seem to have plenty of those, don't I? But I only have 2 that I talk to.

Breakfast: 2 shrimp rolls, fishball pho
Lunch: pasta (non whole wheat)

from the menu -
Spaghettini Misto
Grilled chicken, tiger shrimp sautéed with caramelized onions, broccoli, cherry tomatoes in lemon garlic olive oil
side tossed salad

Snacks: pear that I snitched off the neighbour's tree, chocolate quinoa crunchies, chocolate chip cookie, iced latte (not sugar free or nonfat)

Dinner: *groan*

One leg on the handlebar?

Some of the no-nos (according to Johnny G):

- cadence above 110 RPM or lower than 60 RPM
- "popcorn" jumps - not smooth, too little resistance
- hovers (dropping the saddle so that you cannot sit down)
- isolations (1 leg, 1 arm behind back)
- squats (knee pressure)
- using weights during the ride
- wrong hand position with a certain movement
- pedalling backwards
- stretching on the bike

To add to the confusion...

Thanks--none of the instructors I've gone to do any of those, though I'm not sure about the cadence speed.

I've talked about this before because I think of corn as a starch.

Corn is a grain because it is grass. Have you ever seen a blade of grass with seeds on it, it looks like minature corn.

Once upon a time i learned that fruits come from flowers. Watermelon flowers before it turns into a watermelon.

I just call it all produce and end it there.

i've been saying forever that corn is a grain and peas are a legume, but no one listens to me anymore on this subject... my only confusion is why that watermelon site said that watermelon is a vegetable.

That would make sense that peas are a legume.

Thanks for answering. Everything you say makes perfect sense. I've discovered over the years that a lot people that eat little early in the day eat more than they need to in the evening. I too found that when I started eating breakfast I was less inclined to binge at night.

A lot of people ask me about eating before a workout & I usually suggest what you do. A light meal or snack - to level out/maintain blood sugar & insulin levels & provide energy but w/o making them feel weighed down or upsetting the stomach. It works for me. I'm glad to hear a source I trust does so too.

I had to chuckle at one of your reasons for not eating at night: playing battlefront. I have to kick the guys off their games on the weekend to get them to eat. :-D
