Advice needed on yoga...
| Wed, 09-21-2005 - 9:13am |
DH and I decided that are going to start taking yoga together. There's a studio near our house and the first class is free so we're going on Friday. I know there's been a lot of talk about yoga snobs, etc., and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to know if we've picked a good studio. I am pretty clueless about yoga and have only done yoga at my gym. Any thoughts are much appreciated... :)

I am in Scottsdale but in the very north part near Carefree.
I think the class we're doing today is focusing on deep stretching but I'm not completely sure. Everything has such frou-frouy names that it's hard to tell what anything actually is.
one good thing about yoga styles like bikram and anusara is that they are proprietary names so that you can be pretty sure of what you are getting when you go to one of their classes. all instructors are trained under the same system, etc. so the studios won't vary as much from studio to studio as much as you would normally find.
here are some anusara studios in scottsdale - http://www.azyoga.net/index.htm. this one may be nearer to your house http://www.yogavillage.net/index.php
We just finished our yoga class and it was pretty good. The studio was quite nice and it wasn't a very big class. We each bought 10 sessions to see how we like it. DH thought doing the same class over and over might get a little boring and there's really only one more class that looks interesting. We'll do this for a few weeks and go from there.
Thanks for everybody's thoughts and opinions on this. :)
