Giving up dairy...

I decided to do a little experiment next week and try giving up dairy. This is going to be tough as I am practically addicted to cottage cheese as a side dish and using cottage cheese to make my protein pudding. I'm still going to try to keep the starchy carbs to a minimum as my body seems to hang onto those like crazy. Anybody have any tips or suggestions for getting through a dairy free week?

Why are you giving up dairy, btw?

Oh, I've heard of lots of people saying that they either lose weight or feel tremendously better when they give up dairy. I thought I might give it a shot for a week and see how I feel and if anything happens with my weight.

And... it's a bit of a challenge and you know how I like a challenge. :)

Well, I figured one week I can definitely do. I'll start there. If I'm not missing it too much and feeling okay, I'll try to extend it to two weeks. It's just an experiment and I'll keep you all posted. :)

I just read about a study, in Shape magazine, last night. It's pretty comprehensive done on over 29,000 women, ages 55-69 for 15 years. It says "The ones who ate the most protein from vegetable sources in place of either carbohydrate or animal protein were 30% less likely to die from heart disease than those who ate the least.

i also think that 1 week may be too short of a time to feel much difference. go for it if you want to do it -- it certainly can only be good for you. but if you don't feel a heck of a lot different, just realize that it will probably take more than a week to feel better.

i would be surprised if you lose weight from cutting out dairy.

but why do women who are more health conscious eat less red meat? because it's unhealthy. so it's a "chicken and the egg" situation.

the fact is, there is no reputable medical or scientific source that says that eating lots of meat is good for you. it's universally recognized to be healthier to minimize animal protein in favor of healthy
