I'm the same. When I'm calm and coolheaded I make better decisions, read my opponent more accurately and my punches have more power and precision. Unfortunately, my pacifistic nature prevents from really using this to my advantage. That's when it comes to boxing as a sport. I'm more of a 'wear them down' fighter. This is why I gave it up. I like boxing in all ways EXCEPT getting hit and hitting someone. Does that make ANY sense? When it comes to self defense the fight or flight reaction informs my decisions - I just want to throw one punch or kick hard enough to delay my attacker long enough to a) get away; and b)have serious second thoughts about further attack.
I can think straight, BUT all I think about is how to diffuse the situation (usually at my expense). I'm way too 'go along & get along'. It's always after the fact that I think, "Darn it! I should gotten angry and stood up for myself." On the extremely rare occasion that I do it always seems to work out so I don't know why I'm like this.
We had an incident here last year or the year before where some younger teenagers ticked off some older ones by tossing a rock at their car as they drove by. The older ones drove away but came back a short while later and beat the three younger ones so severely that one died at the scene & another is either mildly brain damaged or otherwise disabled.
I've heard way too many horror stories relating to road rage to react too overtly when someone on the road p.o.'s me. I'll swear loudly w/ my windows closed (the only time I swear, Pollyanna that I am) or if they're tailgating me I'll drive really slow. I'm sooooooo passive-aggressive.
1) Upped my weights for all segments of 'Power' and didn't really find it much more challenging than before.
2)I got a wonderful compliment yesterday (actually several, but my Seniors are very generous w/ me), but was mortified given the situation. I was talking w/ the other instructor that teaches this group of Seniors after class and she asked a couple that were leaving at the same time as us how class was. Their response was that the class & music was great as always and that I was the best instructor. (Eek!! They said it very good naturedly, not implying that her class was unsatisfactory in any way, but it was still less than tactful. I'm blushing w/ embarrassment just thinking about it now.)
3) A short while ago one of the Y co-ordinators asked if I'd consider training instructors to teach cardio box/kickbox.
