I mentioned last Friday that I was going to go shopping and I'm happy to report that I actually had a good time. DH went with me and he promised to be good - and he really was! It's times like this that I lament not being able to go with my mom because she'll hand me stuff that I would NEVER pick out and then I end up liking it. I have to say, one of the items that came home with me was courtesy of DH.
I have hated shopping for a long time as shopping often turned into a self-loathing experience for me. But, I've been working with my counselor on this and we've made a lot of progress! I actually liked how my body looked in some of the things that I tried on. I got depressed a few times, but it wasn't because of my body - it was because I had trouble finding things I liked.
So, shopping with my "new" body is a lot like shopping with my old body, except that things are more pronounced. I've always been curvy and have always had boobs and hips. Well, thanks to the surgery, my boobs actually look quite a bit bigger. (Once I went to the surgeon's office for a check-up and I asked the nurse how much they wanted me to disrobe and she said "You had your boobs done, right?" HA! Nope.) I am currently a 36/38 D depending on the bra and I think I look generally proportioned but I wear a lot of t-shirts that really seem to emphasize things. :P
I realized that I get into a clothing rut... Aside from my personal trainer clothes, I wear jeans or khakis with a tight-fitting v-neck tshirt. I was trying to get out of my box a little bit and DH helped me do that. I'm not really a trendy person and unfortunately, I'm limited to stretchy knit tops. I SO love the look of jeans with a fitted button down white shirt, but I cannot wear those because the buttons pop. It seemed like so many of the clothes we saw were just super-trendy and COMPLICATED. I don't really think I'm lazy person, but to properly wear one shirt over another so that the first shirt appropriately peeks out is just TOO MUCH WORK. (Does this mean I'm getting old?)
Per everybody's suggestions from last time, I did go to higher end stores but didn't find a THING. I ended up at my old haunts and did pretty well there. I got a new pair of jeans, a red long sleeved t-shirt with a little doohicky on it (I don't usually wear red), a green faux suede shirt and a eggshell camisole to go underneath it. Also got a new pair of trail runners which I think I'm going to return as they gave me terrible blisters on Saturday.
