I wanna be a gymrat!

I just ran across this board and recognize a name or two. Hi, Jean! *waves* Remember me? :-) And I recognize millcreek's id from the LoseItForGood/ShapeUp challenge...
I wanna be a gym rat! After my sister went to a presentation by Dr. Pamela Peeke, she called and told me all about it, and that she had bought the book two days ago I went and looked at her book. I wasn't going to buy it; I just wanted to see what my sister would be up to... but it was so inspirational, and has a *lot* of advice on the mental aspect, that I bought it. (Body for Life for Women.) I am fantasizing about changing my life completely and maybe even becoming a personal trainer after I get through this program...
I am going to start the 12-week program today, but I know already some days will be really tough, getting the exercise in - I get up at 3 am to go to work, so I won't be able to do it in the morning. With the holidays coming up it will get really busy and I will be working long hours (I work in a bakery that makes 6000 pies between Thanksgiving & Christmas, and there are only three of us bakers), so I will just do as much as I can. I don't really have weight to lose (maybe ten pounds at most); I mostly need to reduce body fat and get stronger. Since y'all are dedicated exercisers, I thought hanging out here would be further inspiration!!
I've read a couple of the food journals too, and it's really nice to see such healthy food! No excuses here, eh?? :-) I need to watch how many simple carbs I eat, but otherwise I don't think I do too badly, I hope.
Anyway, hope y'all will let me in the door; I have my gymbag and I promise I brought a towel to wipe off the machines! *lol* I welcome advice and/or opinions on anything I post!
*hugs*

Welcome Amy! This is a great group here and we all inspire each other. I think for the most part our food journals are pretty healthy, but don't missunderstand... we DO indulge. :) I am just getting back from a 5 day indulgence (trip back home to see family) so it's time to buckle down and start eating heathfully again.
If you decide to get into personal training, let me know. I am a PT and got into the business almost two years ago.
Again, welcome!
Hi, gymrat!! Thanks for the warm welcome!! I'm glad to hear y'all aren't "perfect" *grin*... but getting back on track is always a good habit to make, one that usually takes me too long because I just don't focus on it enough. But I'm seeing through this book just how important is to not put off taking care of _yourself_.
I hope you had a great time visiting family!! Where are they? Fun stuff to do too? :-)
I would love to hear about personal training! What's it like to do? Like I said, it's currently a fantasy; I don't even know that much about it except that another friend is doing the 6-week WITS national certification course/exam right now, and I looked online and found there are instructors for that near me (San Diego).
*hugs*

Oh, we are far from perfect. :) And that's partly why I like it here. I think it would be nauseating to be around a bunch of model-perfect people who are emotionally well-adjusted and never eat chocolate. *shaking head*
I was in St. Louis for the better part of last week and all we did was eat! :P Time to get back to healthy habits as I'm definitely feeling sluggish.
If you want info on being a PT, it's probably best to email me through my profile. I'll be happy to share with you the ins and outs of the business.

*rotfl* I do need my chocolate, especially near TOM.
I've always wanted to see the arch in St. Louis! :-) Glad you had a good time visiting and noshing.
I sent you an email regarding the PT stuff... thanks!
Hey Amy!
How is your calligraphy going? I'm working on a few pieces right now; when they're done I'll post them to my site and let you know...
As for the hours, you actually get used to it. It's really not bad as long as you force yourself to go to bed on time! (I'm in bed by 8 - I just say I'm still on east coast time!) I don't decorate cakes (and they don't do fancy ones at this bakery either), but I make muffins, cookies, cakes, & pies. All super high fat (ie real cream rather than milk, loads of butter and eggs) and super high sugar. I really like the work, but it's rather incongruous with how I myself eat!
I'm glad to hear the BFL has some good recommendations. Like I said, the book was so inspirational! I've seen Oxygen but not read much of it. Are you in the fitness industry too, like gymrat76 (is that Kel, I think?)
oh, it's so nice to see other veg folks!!! Almost everything I read regarding eating for an excersize plan is loaded with grilled chicken and fish... I didn't know you were vegetarian, did I? I have definite vegan tendencies, though, so it will be nice to converse with Jen & Soleil too!
Hi and welcome! I am more of an occasional poster because I am not a real gym rat. I do taekwondo and yoga, with a little bit of weights thrown in. Good luck with the program and remember there are always going to be times when you will not be able to follow it. That is life. It doesn't mean you have failed. It just means that the next day you will try again. That is the way I look at life. Life needs to be lived and no one is perfect.

Welcome, Amy!
I'm an occasional poster, because my workouts are mostly martial arts (Krav Maga). But my training will likely change soon because I'm considering training for my next belt test (and the test will likely last 8 hours-might need some additional cardio training to prepare!). I eat pretty well but I still have a weakness for Almond M & Ms.. even though I've changed my diet recently to focus on more proteins, at this point I don't think I could get thru the day without a handful of my M & Ms (I am a SAHM with a 3 year old-'nuff said).
And I love the title of your post. It made me think of that "I wanna be a cowboy" song from the 80s...maybe we should all collaborate and write an "I wanna be a gymrat" song! :)
