Quinn wore his 'Greenday' tee-shirt to school yesterday. It has the word 'Greenday' written big across the front & a heart shaped hand grenade. One of the teachers (not his teacher) in the hall stopped him & told him that he can't wear shirts with weapons on it. I know this rule & he does too, but we just totally didn't think about the grenade. Oops! & Duh!
I guess he shouldn't wear his 'Monty Plyton's Holy Grail' tee-shirt that reads "I fart in your general direction"? The word 'fart' sort of looks like 'fort'...so he might could get away with it. I generally hate the word 'fart' but in the movie when John Cleese says that, it is so darn funny!
Do your tweens have any tees that bend the rules?

LOL---pretty sad that schools have to become so strict now when it comes to weapons and such!

No, my sons don't have any t-shirts like that. my younger one has some shirts with sports saying and my older DS refuses to wear any t-shirts with sayings on it.

We don't have an official rule, but I suppose if something was offensive the teachers would say something. Kristen is not big on T-shirts with sayings on them and its not so much a girl thing I don't think. Apparently just having cool namebrands on your T-shirts is the rage with our boys at school.

Hannah has a t-shirt from the movie, "Nightmare before Christmas." It black with bold lettering that says, Nightmare. It has some scary skulls on it. I told her she couldn't wear it.

Then she grabs a tank top from american eagle. I nixed that too. No spagetti straps.

Quinn wore uniforms all through elementary school. In a way, it was nice. He really could get by with a lot less school clothes. For example, his school wore navy or kahki pants & red, white or navy shirts. He had 2 or 3 pairs of pants/shorts & 4 or 5 shirts.

It seems like 25% of my sons tee-shirts have skulls on them. I'm sort of odd, I like skull shirts. Weird, eh? Today I bought him a new skull tee-shirt & a Led Zepplin tee-shirt. Neither have hand granades or anyother weapon. LOL

Kelsey has a black long sleeved (mesh in the sleeves only) shirt that she wore quite a few times before her teacher said something to her. It has two pink skulls on it and says "bad attitude." I bought it for Hallowe'en last year b/c she wanted to go goth. Anyway about 1/2 way thru the year the teacher told her she couldn't wear it and when Kelsey asked why she asked her if she wanted people to think she had an attitude problem.
I thought it was rather silly but we respected the teacher's request and she no longer wore it to school.

I don't think my boys have any offensive shirts or clothing. They have a couple of shirts with sayings on them but I doubt it offends anyone. Matthew has a shirt that reads, "Parents for sale, buy one get one free". I find it to be amusing but other parents might not think so. I think it also depends on the area you live in and the specific codes of the schools. When the simpson's cartoon first came out, all the Bart shirts that said, "eat my shorts" were banned from a middle school in my area. Compared to some of the things I've seen girls wearing to school or some of the pictures and sayings on shirts, I find the simpson comment to be mild. I don't see anything wrong with the green day shirt but at the same time with all the school violence I guess it's just wise to try and keep out all clothing that could stir controversy. I kinda wish all schools would just have the uniform policy. That would cut out on the drama of finding the 'perfect outfit' and also on the stereotype that comes from certain types of clothes.

Well I read this a couple of days ago thinking.."nope, don't think we have any shirts like that". First of all, my husband is an active duty Marine so I dont' think or even look twice when my son wears shirt sporting Marine type logos. He came down stairs today wearing one that had a sword on it, with some saying on it that I personally would probably take offence to seeing worn at school! I'm schmacking my forehead going "Holy Cow"! Back upstairs to change, he comes down with yet another one on...something else that probably could be banned! SHEESH!

WHY can't I get the boy to just wear polo's?
