Both of mine buy their lunches. $2.00 / day. My youngest (12) eats the schools lunch, whatever they are having that day and my oldest (14) usually has something off the snack bar.

Our DD takes lunch more often. She likes a variety of things including leftover pizza, crackers and jelly or cheese, bagels w/ cheesedeli meat sandwiches, oranges, apples, pea pods, snack crackers and a couple cookies. Beverage is typically juice or water.

Occasionally she'll buy lunch, maybe 2 or 3 times a month. She likes the chicken nuggets they offer.

Hannah usually buys her lunch. We have an option if you're in 6,7,8 grade if you don't like the "main" course you can substitue a salad. She did that last year on days she didn't like what they were having. Both kids tend to like what is for lunch...they have the usual hotdogs, chicken fingers, pizza but also have rotini, chicken and noodles and sandwiches.

Lunch cost $1.50

Does your tween/teen take their lunch or eat at school?

Every single day, day after day after day. (Can you tell it doesn't thrill me? LOL) I don't know of a single elementary school in Canada with a cafeteria.

DO you pack their lunch or do they?

Well, she hates sandwiches so she gets alot of leftovers and things like burritos or mini-pizzas wrapped in foil I try to include at least 3 or 4 food groups in each meal. (She has two lunch periods.) So a fruit, protein and carb in first break and a fruit/milk, protein, carb, veggie in the second. Kristen bores really easily of foods, she would never eat the same thing day after day so its always a challenge for me to come up with something different everyday. So I always try to make extra dinner that can translate into the lunch the next day. I make her lunch. I make mine so its no big deal to do two. Also then I can make sure its nutritious. Too many kids at her school come with cola and chips for lunch because they pack their own and most kids won't make themselves spagetti in the morning or even be bothered to make a sandwich. So I figure its in my interest and my child's to make the lunch still.

The only lunch we have offered is on Fridays they can order a sub or a slice of pizza. But that's it, not drink or dessert included. I think its $3/slice of pizza and varies for the sub depending how big. Kristen really got turned off pizza having it every week and doesn't even want to order it now. Also, its not exactly fresh when they get it. We can also order juice or milk daily and Kristen likes to think she's like chocolate milk but I know she would NOT drink it everyday and its not cheap. So I say no and I can send her choc. milk in her lunch if she's desperate. But when I buy a carton she drinks about 3/4 of it in 3 days and the rest sits there till I toss it.

Ds-12 always eats at school. He gets 2 milks so the daily cost is $1.95.

Ds-9 normally eats at school but occasionally 3-4 per month will take his lunch. I believe he is also getting double milks so his cost is $1.90, I think(?). They use the debit card system so I just put 20-30 bucks in their accounts when they bring home a slip that says that their account is getting low.

When I pack lunch, I put in a sandwich-usually meat. A piece of fruit or applesauce cup, pretzels, goldfish, chips and a granola bar or cookie, etc. This year I bought a thermos as he has really gotten into chicken noodle soup.

At school they have foods like hamburgers, mcribs, chili, nuggets, corndogs, pizza, spaghetti, the basic school lunch type of foods.

Jordyn mostly takes her lunch. She makes it herself, although I will make her sandwich occassionally if she's taking peanut butter since she still has trouble spreading it. She will normally pack a sandwich (salami, roast beef or peanut butter only), a yogurt or pudding, a pack of fruit snacks, sometimes a muffin if we have it or some kind of fruit, and a drink. Once in a while I will surprise her and stick in a little note or hershey's kiss or something. About the only time she buys lunch at school is if they are having a chicken patty sandwich, popcorn chicken or chicken nuggets. Her school this year is $2.25, plus $.40 for milk. Even if she packs her lunch sometimes she'll take money to buy a chocolate milk.

My dd (12) packs her own lunch and buys only once in a while. Sometimes she will ask for 50 cents for ice cream. I think the whole lunch is like $2.25 - $2.50. She amazes me that she makes the whole lunch herself in the morning. She might make a sandwich but she also got into packing soup or spaghettios in a thermos. She doesn't always wipe up the counter when she's done, but I think I should be grateful for what I have!

Matthew takes a packed lunch and always has

I pack his lunch and I try to mix it up. I'll make a variety of sandwiches like ham, bologna, hoagies, chicken salad, tuna, egg salad, veggie. He also takes some sort of fruit and some sort of chip or cookie. In addition to that he takes in a healthy snack because his teacher asked that the class have a break since they eat so late.

Well, I can answer this one too because Brandon has always loved buying his lunch. Our school has the regular menu, snack bar, full salad bar and drink/dessert bar. Regular lunch is 1.75 but the other things are additional.
