Orthodontist second opinion

I almost forgot but Thursday before we left for Syracuse we had our second ortho appointment. It was for a second opinion after the last one scared the beejeezus out of us. Well this guy said there is no need for a Herbst appliance (sort of like pistons in her mouth) that its not that bad and likely the elastics used later will be sufficient. Kristen had such a smile on her face and was very happy about that. I'm kind of glad we had the bad news first because I'm sure if this had been our first appointment it would have been less appealing to her.
So she has to start with the palate expander, same as the other place for about 4 weeks, then regular braces for 2 years and she's done. So Wed. (second day of school and she

Hannah had a palate expander and my son has one now. She had a really bad cross bite and I'm amazed the difference it made in her mouth! (you could even tell from the outside) WE had before and after pictures taken...amazing. She has a retainer now until she gets braces. If you can believe it, she is still waiting to lose some teeth! It seems like most of her friends have/had braces.
All of the pre-braces work wasn't so bad for Hannah. My son had some problems because he has a sensitive gag reflex. That was probably the worst part, for him anyway. That was when the took the molds of his teeth.
Good Luck!
Sounds good! My daughter is at the end phase :) - she had a palatal expander (and had to wear headgear with a chin cup), then wore a retainer until a couple of baby teeth came out, then wore braces for about a year (they came off in August ~ yay!), and now has another retainer (which she will wear 23 hours a day. In 6 months she'll only need to wear the retainer at night). Her teeth are beautiful :) and so straight! It was all so worth it!
