Question of the week.....How has your tween's/teens play changed in the past year or so?

It has changed some. Every now and then though she still has a go at Barbies or her ponies. She is more now into dancing and some of the kids on the street make up routines and she bought that dance mat this summer she's used a fair bit. I think she is getting more self-conscious about the ponies, but she has one friend who is still into them as well so they play it together. She is at that awkward age where she still wants things like My Little Pony stuff, it appeals to her, but I know she's going to soon be outgrowing it so I won't buy it for her. She wants a karaoke machine which I might spring for for Christmas since she is more into music and singing and dancing these days.

My 12 year old daughter is still into Bratz dolls! Physically she's small, but her best friend looks like a grown woman so they are funny when I catch then playing them! They've built matching dollhouses out of scrap lumber and hung fabric on the walls and put carpet remnants on the floors! Too cute! Yes they are embarrassed, probably because of my son making fun of them (so they say) so it's only behind closed bedroom doors. Even when I knock, I'm told to hold on so she can disguise that she's been playing with dolls!

My son (15)is big into XModz cars and this past year he and his sister both have gotten hooked on Runescape (thanks to me reading about it here on this board and checking it out). He and his friends all hook up online and play together. He also still enjoys playing LEGOS!!! Shhhh, dont' tell him I told ya! HAHA!

DD has added more dancing/making up dances, writing plays/short stories and less time playing "pretend" (e.g. dolls, Bratz, house). Some of her friends continue to enjoy that level of play and she's certainly has fun with them. Like other posters above, she doesn't want anyone to know that she still plays pretend.

She still enjoys all the playground equipment in the backyard--and there's a lot--swings, slide, huge see-saw, monkey bars and zip line. She also spent a lot of time underwater now that we have added a pool.

It's an interesting transition to watch, isn't it?

How funny that you should ask. Kayleigh turned 11 in June.

The biggest change I've noticed about Quinn's playing in the past year, is he has discovered on-line games. He loves a game called Rune Scape.
He skateboards now more than ever. We go the the skatepark just about every Tuesday afternoon/evening.
As far as toys, he doesn't jump around on his pogo stick anymore. (I need to give them away) And he hasn't play with his Legos in awhile. (Maybe this winter?)
I've donated a lot of RC toys. He doesn't play with them at all anymore. I also got rid of a few games (e.g.) Operation & Kerplunk. I found a box under his bed with a bunch of Happy Meal toys that I just trashed. Why he had them under there, I'll never know. ??? He hasn't eaten a Happy Meal (or other kids meal) in at least a year.
He & his friends still love water guns & super soakers. They all still jump on the trampoline. But I have noticed that they will just sit on it & talk. They still jump the homemade bike ramp that they built last summer. (A huge dirt pile in our side yard...long story)
He use to be a great yo-yo'er, But he broke his middle yo-yo finger & has problems yo-yoing. He's trying to get good at it again. I love to watch him yo-yo.
Quinn has a Brio Thomas the Tank Engine wooden train track that he got for Christmas when he was 2 or 3 years old. He loved it & still plays with it every once in awhile. At Christmas, he sets it up on his dresser & makes a mini snow village with it. I plan to keep it (& his Tonka dumptruck & a few books) for my grandchildren.

Matthew has changed a bit this last year. He's not really playing with toys anymore. He used to play with this castle set he had all the time. As the years went on the castle set was just one part of an entire kingdom, and the rest of the kingdom was made out of legos. He used to always build things with legos but that's rare now. The only consistent thing he's done since he first could is draw and write stories. He's so into his gameboy that it pretty much consumes his friend time. Now that the new nintendo ds can link to other friends, he and a group of friends spend a lot of time chatting and challenging each other at the games. He's uses his ipod quite a bit and likes to go to the park around the corner with his buddies. Last year he and his buddies couldn't get enough of playing baseball, four square and soccer. This year they all got the ds right around the same time so it's still so new they all are hooked!
