A kid in Kristen's class ran away today

She got back from the ortho and was told that Nick had run away from the school. He really hates the school for some reason, although last year he got all kinds of awards for athletics and academics so its not like he's an outcast. They moved to a different neighborhood and most kids assumed he'd go to that school but his parents have him back in ours. We'll see for how long.

Kristen said he tried to run away in March but the principal caught him. Today as I was leaving after dropping off Kristen I saw the principal heading down the path by the parking lot towards the mall. I wondered where she was going and jokingly thought that maybe the kids had driven her off on day 2. But I guess she was heading out to look for the kid. Kristen doesn't know if they found him, she said he never came back to class, but if they did find him I'm sure they called his parents directly. She said they were interviewing his friends to try and find out where he might have gone.

What a start to the year. The ceilings and roof in our school are still not finished (exposed piping and workmen around), the school busses are still messed up with Kristen's bus showing up 45 min. late to pick them up today, 60 min. late yesterday, will tomorrow be 30? And now a kid runs away on day 2. The year has to improve at this rate.

That poor boy! I hope he's found and everything is worked out. Somehow I think he may have some issues going on at home and is screaming for help.

Our busses have been sporatic as well, but it's mostly due to the massive shortage in drivers. I live in one of the fastest growing cities in AZ and the number of drivers decreased this year. It's not surprising since our district is the lowest paying and you can literally drive down the next block to the Peoria district and make more money as a driver there...so who wouldn't? They are short on bus drivers as well but not nearly the amount we are. I considered being a bus driver but let's be real...I hate kids and I can already hear myself screaming..."shuuuuut uuuuup"

I hope the issues with your school and the busses is resolved asap! I wouldn't mind arriving to school 45 min late but it sure would suck the other way around!

Sorry to hear that....I hope the rest of Kristen's week goes better. And my thoughts are with the boy & his family; hope he comes back on his own.

He was back in school today. I asked her if he said anything and she said he didn't want to discuss it. That it was no big deal. Apparently one of the girls saw him at the school after school yesterday when her Dad picked her up, so he wasn't gone very long. He was safe and sound anyway and hopefully they'll figure out what's going on because he's obviously upset about something.

I remember when Hannah was in the 5th grade. A new kid at the school ran away. The school put him in the wrong grade. He should have been in the 6th.
