What is the most you have ever spent on a book for your tween/teen or any age of your children? The reason I ask...Quinn LOVES the 'Bone' series of books by Jeff Smith. (they are graphic novels) He has read volumes 1, 2 & 3 (has re-read them too). They cost around $9 a pop. There is a total of 9 books in the entire series. Amazon has a volume with all 9 books in one nice, jumbo book for $27. He has a b-day coming up next month. I'm thinking of getting it for him...but is it silly too spend that much on a book for a child?

BTW...insomia again. Ugh! I'm hoping that when the motherwort gets here it will help me with the problem.

We are a huge book family and spend a fortune on books. The jumbo book sounds like a really good deal. I would go for it and get it, especially if you combine with his birthday. I don't mind spending more money on books now because the children have the maturity to really enjoy them and take care of them.

My 10 yo dd is an avid reader so at times I've been unable to get certain things in anything but hardcover (which means a min of $12). Can't remember any book being particularly expensive though. Like the previous poster said I'm sure I've spent a mint because I'm constantly getting books thru Amazon & Borders (which is up the street from my office).

Jordyn LOVES the Bone series, she has all the books, 1-9, and my brother got her the jumbo book for her birthday last year also. She has reread these books a dozen times over, she takes them on car rides and everything. Honestly, if they like it that much, I think it is completely worth the money spent. Now there have been other times, like when she insisted she had to have the whole series in the Black Cauldron set, 6 soft cover books at $6.00 a pop and never ended reading 4-6, that I get upset about. But I personally have spent more on some of the Bone books because Jordyn got into them about 2-3 years ago and some weren't being made anymore (they just began rereleasing them) and we ended up getting the originaly versions on amazon.com and half.com for much more than that, some were $11-12 each. But again, she loves them, she has even lent them out to a few friends to read.

I spare no expense for books. We are avid readers ( if I speak it, it's true, right?).No really, we all read and I spend ABSURB amounts of money on books. I feel as though I am making an investment.

So I may not be the right one to answer this post. I say go for the jumbo book.

Nah... I don't buy my kids much. But I do buy them as many books as they can read. I suppose I can get away with that because DD doesn't read as much as I would like. Although books of that price I usualy wait for a birthday or X-mas. I just spend WAY more than that for DD's 12th birthday present. (Not a book) I say go for it.

I think close to $50 was the most. It was an anothology of Roald Dahl stories. Every huge hardcover book, lots of pictures, really nice. She got it for Christmas.

$27 sounds good for all those books. Normally I wouldn't spend that much on a book, but I've bought the Harry Potter books new which are around $25.

If it is a series that will be enjoyed and read through the years, I'd say definitely.
