Our Board Question of the week is about cell phones!
We have covered this before, but it has been awhile!
So does your tween/teen have a cell phone?
Remind us of how old they are!
Why or why not do they have one?
What kind of package do they have if they do have one?
What about rules and regulations?
Share your thoughts!

Yes, Hannah has a cell phone. (she's 7th grade) We got it for her at the beginning of the summer when she was attending a bunch of sports camps. I just felt better knowing she could instantly get a hold of me.
She hardly ever uses it. A few of her friends also have cell phones, but they don't really call each other.
No rules, because it doesn't get used much.
We have Verizon, so it was $10 a month to add her.
Katie (14) has a cell phone that we bought her for Christmas last year.
SAHM Mom to Katie
Sami is 13 and has
My son is 12, in the 8th grade and he has a cell phone. He needed one because he was always staying after school for this activity or that and things always got out at different times. He was exceeding the allowed two (non-emergancy) phone calls home per week that the school gives each student. So having a phone to call me for a ride was most helpful. In addition he's very independant and enjoyed riding his bike down to the library and I felt more comfortable with him being able to call and let me know he got there ok and call to tell him he was leaving the library and heading home. I know I couldn't be able to give him that level of independance without him having a cell phone to check in.
Connor has a Tracfone. Our deal is that we purchase a certain amount of minutes each plan period. If he finds he needs more minutes than what we have provided then he will have to pay for them from his allowance. The phone is really just used for emergancies and checking in or to ask for a ride.. as he doesn't have enough minutes to just chat with friends. That's what our land line and email is for.

Hugh is 12 and does not have a cell phone, there is just no need at this time.
Isaiah is 10 and has a cell phone. His bill is connected to ours....we have a Family Share Plan. He hardly EVER uses it. We initially got it for him since he and his siblings would be walking from the bus stop and for his sports
So does your tween/teen have a cell phone?
Yes, he got it for Christmas last year.

He is 12 and 7th grade-got it in 5th grade, right before his 12th BD.
Why or why not do they have one?
Safety and convenience!!
What kind of package do they have if they do have one?
We have cingular family talk plan.
What about rules and regulations?
None really-we have more than enough minutes with lots of rollover and he really doesn't just sit around and talk on it. Occasionally will call a friend, but it is more for keeping in touch with me.
Phillip is 11 and he has had one since Feb. We moved in January to Missouri from Louisiana and we don't have any family up here for him to call so we wanted him to be able to get in touch with us if he needed to. I also was going to the Dr. once a week during that time and a couple of appointments we taking place when he got out from school. I wanted him to call me when he got home. He never really uses it just to call his grandmother long distance. We have a family plan with Cingular and unlimited night & weekends & long distance so $9.99 is all it costs.
