DD started babysitting for one neighbour about two months before her 12th birthday. I was alright with it b/c i was home and they lived right beside us. Now she is turning 13 in Nov and she is starting to babysit quite a bit for different people. She made $40.00 babysitting this week and she will make another babysitting next week.
So if your kids babysit how much do they charge?
DD charges $5.00 per hour.

We have 2 that babysit - our oldest (Lon) has a standing "job" on Friday nights and they agreed on an every week price before he started (they have 5 kids).

I will have my daughter babysit her younger brother for an hour at a time. She has also babysat with a friend.

Before she really starts babysitting, I would have her take a course through the Red Cross.

How much will she charge? It's hard to say. I know I have to pay $10.00 per hour for a babysitter.

No, she has no interest in babysitting and is not very patient with little kids. Also there are two teens on our street who do most of the local babysitting. I pay $5/hour for the locals although I sometimes round up. So if I am gone for a little more than an hour and a half I pay $20.

DD took the St. John's Ambulance babysitting course. They go over first aid and each child is given a book to take home with them. DD still takes it everytime she babysits. She takes her jobs very seriously. A day or so before each job she will plan what she is going to do with the kids depending on their ages. She sometimes will do scavenger hunts in the backyard for the older ones, she reads with the little ones, she brings puzzles and games. She will sit and help the younger ones with any homework they may have etc.

Wow $10.00 per hour seems very high. Where do live that it costs so much? DD charges the same for one child as she does for 2. I think her rates would change if she had 4 or more kids. I have had parents ask what she charges etc and i let them know it is not my business and she sets her own rates. If they want to talk to her she has to discuss it with them. The only thing i insist on is she be home by 9:30 during the week but that hasn't become an issue yet.

"Where do live that it costs so much? "

Northern Massachusetts. Even at that price, it can be a pain to get a sitter. I ususally have to make 3-4 phone calls before I can get someone. Needless to say, I only hire a sitter when I have to.

What is minimum wage there. Here it is $7.50 going up to $8.00 in February. Servers however make $6.45 per hour because they make tips.

I think the official minimum wage is $6.75, and will be going up to over $8.00. Having said that, few employeers in the area pay minimum wage. Kids here often have plenty of pocket money from their parents, so they aren't willing to work for minimum wage.

Kayleigh is 11 and does not babysit, other than watching 7 year old DS sometimes for less than 1/2
