Our Tuesday Hot Topic Conversation is about the ban that is becoming country wide regarding smoking in public places!
What are your thoughts on the "NO SMOKING" ban that is in effect in restaurants, and public spots.

I hate smoking. I don't care if someone smokes, that's their choice, but stay away from me!
I had an incident this weekend that kind of made me mad. We were at a wedding reception. My son, crazy guy he is, was dancing up a storm and got overheated. I walked him the the exit door to get some "fresh" air--and what do ya know--there were about 5 smokers standing right by the door. We ended up walking around the parking lot. Luckily it wasn't too cold, but it was a bit chilly.
I don't really understand the mindset of someone who smokes who thinks they have the right to make me uncomfortable. Is that what they really think??? Why do they think their rights should be more important than mine? That's what I don't get.
Another thing that drives me crazy is when someone is smoking in their car and flips their cig butt out the window!!! I think in a way that bugs me more than cigarette smoke. Who do these people think they are that they not only pollute the environment with their smoke, but then can just throw their trash out the window.
Sorry if I offended any smokers...I just feel very strongly about this subject.
AS far as a smoking ban, of course I'm all for it. I guess I've never had an addiction before, but I don't understand how someone can't go 1 hour without smoking. Can't they enjoy a dinner out without lighting up? AS far as bars go, go ahead and smoke. You won't see me there anyway!!

I fully support the ban in public places, I consider it a huge intrusion for people to invade my air in public areas.
I live in Colorado where luckily we already have a public smoking ban that took effect in July...it is SO NICE to go anywhere we want (including bars) and not have to worry about smelling smoke. Even better is that I can wear whatever I want without worrying about having to have it drycleaned before being able to wear it again because of the smoke smell. Added to this, smokers can't be closer that 15 ft. to the entrance of a public building to smoke..so no more walking outside a mall door into a cloud of smoke. I actually used to get nosebleeds when I went to clubs in my younger days because the smoke would be so thick!
I too get on my soapbox about this...cig. smoke is a known carginogen, you have to be 18 to legally buy them, yet some parents STILL smoke in their houses and even worse..in their cars! It drives me nuts to see babies and toddlers too young to speak up for themselves sitting in a car filled with mom and dad's smoke. To me that is clearly child abuse!
I could care less if people choose to smoke, I believe in everyone having their own rights..as long as their rights don't impose on MY RIGHTS to NOT have to be exposed to their smoke and litter.

In CA....it is already banned. THANK GOD!! My younger son and I have asthma. So we would suffer dearly if smoking were still permitted in public places. It's your prerogative if you want to smoke BUT the non smokers in the world should not have to put up with the smoke. The smoke gets in your clothes and hair.....ICK!!
I too am not a smoker and can't stand the stuff!

What some people don't realize is it is not the customer that is out for dinner for an hour or so that will potentially have side effects from second hand smoke; it is the front line workers. Servers that work 6-8 hours in a smoking section or in a bar are more likely to develop smoke related illnesses then the customer that is exposed to it as frequently or infrequently as he or she chooses.
I am curious to see what others think?
