I Was Wednesday Wondering......

What are your thoughts on 10-14 year olds, dressing up for and participating in the Halloween Holiday?

Do you think they are too old?

I'll admit it--I think middle schoolers are too old to dress up and trick or treat.

I think they are still young and I don't see any problem with letting them go trick or treating.

Personally I have told Rach once she hits 13 then no more trick or treating cuz I think of that activity being more for little ones rather than teens. Besides a lot of teens go to parties or movies so I don't view it as being a big issue.

I know DH or I have made comments about "where's your costume" if older kids show up w/out a costume on our doorstep. Honestly if you can't bother to dress up then its obvious you're just here for candy ;-)

I think it is innocent fun and there is absolutely no harm in it, heck, I'd rather see a middle schooler knocking on doors and asking for candy than roaming the streets looking for trouble!

I do think a creative and thought out costume is needed though, and won't give out candy to anyone without one.

Okay, this is coming from parents who will dressed up and having a party for adults and kids...

I absolutely will let my kids dress up and go trick or treating! Hallween has always been a fun family activity for us, and now that they're older we want to encourage them to see the fun of the holiday instead of looking for trouble! They'll probably be escorting younger kids around so the parents can come to our house for our pot luck.

If teens show up at my house without a costume, I'd give them a small piece of candy and probably tell them that they'd get more candy if they were in costume. I think I actually get more frustrated by kids who repeatedly come by for more candy, or are rude. When we lived in Japan, they opened the base to locals for trick or treating and they know they have to wear costumes. Imagine opening your door to 18 yr old boys wearing hefty bags over their clothes and black marker circles around their eyes..I'm not kidding! This was the most commmon costume they wore! HAHA!!!

well - we are a big halloween loving family - but....

We don't generally trick or treat door to door - we usually attend our church party, and we also have a pumpkin carving party of our own and tend to have a scary movie night with our kids and friends.

I think if they actually dress up and put effort into it and then it is ok!

my daughter wants to dress up and go "see how much candy she can get"

I thought about inviting some of her friends over and give them a "scavenger hunt"
to go on that night while gettting candy.

I was going to make up a list and send it out with them while two groups go with adults.

No problem for me as long as they dress up.

Kayleigh is 11, she absolutely plans to dress up and trick or treat, she is going to be a pirate.
