Bus issues

Quinn's bus comes right at 6:30. The school is about a 5 min. drive from here. After he gets picked up, they had one more stop & then they go to the school. The school is still locked when they get there...so they have to sit on the bus for at least 20 minutes until it opens.
The reason I know this is because this morning, after the bus picked him up, I got dressed & went to the school. I got there at 6:42 & his bus (plus one right behind it) was already there. I parked in the parking lot & at 7:05 the kids were allowed off the bus & into the school. I think that it is just stupid for the bus driver to come so early to pick the kids up & then make them sit on the bus at the school until the school opens!
I talked to the vice principal about it a couple of weeks ago & he told me that he doesn't get to the school until 7am. He said that he noticed there were a few busses there every morning. He agreed that there was no sense in the busses getting there so early. He was going to check into it & call me back. I haven't heard anything from him. So, I've called again & left a message for him to call me.
Does anyone else think that this is sort of dumb? If the bus came 20 minutes later, that would be 20 that we could use doing something worth while, even a few extra winks of sleep. I just think that it's a waste of time to just be sitting on the bus...not to mention a waste of gas! The motors were running. I have to admit that Quinn's bus driver isn't the sharpest person. A few months ago she was pulled over by a cop for littering.

That is really odd - I'd go over the principals head and call the transportation office for your local district and ask them what the deal is?

That is dumb. Our kids get to the school around 8:40 and they are allowed off the busses at 8:45 as soon as the supervisors come outside. I would be ticked if she was getting picked up that early and forced to sit on the bus. Because of the confined spaces as well kids tend to get carried away and goofy and I think it leads to more behaviour problems. Its like rats in a cage, the less space they have the more likely they are to attack each other. (Not that our kids are rats. LOL

I'd call the transportation director since the school usually doesn't have any control over the bus times. I have to tell you that here, our kids are picked up and dropped off about 20-25 minutes PRIOR to the school doors being unlocked - this means you've got hundreds of kids standing outside (and imagine the trouble some can create) in all kinds of weather waiting, ugh. Our problem is the county doesn't have enough buses for all the schools and when I called the transportation director, the only solution he could say was "do you want to pay for more buses because we can't"...so we wait too.

This may be a stupid question but I will ask anyway. If the school is only a five minute bus ride away, then why doesn't he walk to school?

Because it's about 5 miles from here (give or take). There are no side walks . We live in the country.
Also...the road that his school is on is really curvy & unsafe. His school basically sits in a valley.

Ok. I asked because my daughter's school is a five minute drive from my house, but it is less than a half mile away. She walks there in less than twenty minutes.

I agree that is just dumb and I wouldn't allow Emily to do that!
