Pulled this from another thread but I had to chime in here. Connor has had two backpacks his entire life, both are from LL Bean. The first he carried from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Last year his pack was too small for the amount of books he had to carry and we purchased him a larger pack. There was nothing wrong with the original LLBean pack that he had been using for the past 7 years and he now uses it as an every day functional pack (library, pool, sleep overs etc..).

LL Bean packs are IMO worth the investment.

I agree!

I invested in a pricey but sturdy backpack this year. Last year, my tween went thru THREE(3) GAP backpacks...at $30 a pop....I spent more than I would had I bought a pricier one last year.

I purchased theirs from Land's End though. I sent my

It's true. They really do last. Right now they have about 6 or 7 on clearance but they are more styled for girls. Bright pink, hibiscus flowers prints, purple camo & etc. (I think the pink & lime green hibicus one that is really groovy. that navy & orange hibicus one is cute too.) There is a lime green one though & some guys like the lime color.
Here is a direct link just to the backpacks on sale (if you are interested):

I'll snoop around to see if I can find a free shiping code & post it in another reply. I've never paid any shipping cost for LLBean. Seems they always have a free shipping code out there somewhere.

we buy a new one every year. last year i had to buy two. my dd goes through them so quickly even at $20 a pop. she now has gone back to her old one that she loved when she was in kindergarden. because i refused to buy her another one. she likes the ones that roll. and really good one cost 40 to 50 dollars. i do not spend that kind of money on backpacks. its not worth it to me. So i tell her to make due. I have to buy her other things to go with her to school anyway. we have a bag for dance and a bag for lunch and a bag for the shoes and a bag for the books. its alot. but once we switch schools then one backpack and one lunch box..........what is she going to do.

I would only buy a backpack from LL Bean or Landsend. I buy one backpack that they use for a minimum of four years. My daughter used her Landsend backpack for four years, and then the zipper broke. (I don't blame Landsend for that. She would stuff the backpack to the gills everyday. It could only take so much abuse.) I could have had Landsend replace it for free, but she wanted a new color. I figured I had gotten my thirty dollars worth.

Now my problem is that with the excitement of starting a new school year, my kids are just as excited to get a new school bag!
