Spinoff of PG13, what TV shows?

Since the PG13 discussion has been helpful, I was wondering about TV shows. Katlynn likes to watch Ugly Betty with me...which I finally decided would be ok, I still am not sure about Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives, since the content is so adult, everyone sleeping with everyone else, etc. CSI, I think is pretty gorey. Just trying to find a barometer, since I was so sheltered. My kids mostly watch the shows on Nick, Cartoon Network, Disney etc. They love reality shows like Survivor and Amazing Race and we watch a lot of TLC shows and Food Network, Animal Planet, Discovery etc. But as for Network TV, what do you all think is appropriate?
Thanks in advance. I find all of this so interesting and helpful. My mom passed away in February from Pancreatic Cancer, she was 55, and I'm and only child and I have the oldest children of all my friends, so I have to ask others for advice. :-) Thanks for humoring me!

We don't watch a lot of network tv. Hannah (ALMOST 13)watches Lost with us, that is the only network show we really watch. She loves watching Food Network and makeover shows (on TLC?). It also seems like Nick and Cartoon network are on a lot too. (ranging from Spongebob to Drake and Josh).

We're not BIG tv watchers but we do follow Extreme Home Makeover, American Idol, Bones and House. House still makes us cringe many times but the kids like to remind us that they hear worse than that at school. Of course my oldest is 16 so my 13 yr old, by benefit of having an older sibling, is probably exposed to things the oldest wasn't! Dh and I watched Desperate Housewives religiously but it was a big deal....we shoo'ed the kids out of the room and upstairs to get ready for school the next day. We'd have a drink and this show was kind of our 'the weekend is really over but let's enjoy it a few more minutes" kind of thing. NO KIDS...I wouldn't let em watch it if they wanted to! Mom needs her OWN show! LOL!!! They don't really watch TV during the day, perhaps mythbusters and dirty jobs.

Sharon,
First, let me express my condolences regarding your mother.
13 and 10 yo.
No MTV.
The kids really don't watch much on network TV. They both like the Fox show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?". I have no problems with that, just the fact that they show commercials for shows they can't watch (Family Guy etc) I let 10 year old watch So you think you can dance last week. Interesting show, but I didn't like most of the dancing (neither did dd). Oldest likes 1 vs 100. They've never expressed an interest in American Idol, which is probably one of the only other network tv shows they can watch
They like the Disney shows more than the Nick shows. But they're getting bored with Disney b/c they show the same movies at 8pm that the kids have seen a million times. And the sitcoms are the same shows over and over too. Lately we've just been turning it off and letting the kids play a game before bed. Things will change once school starts up again, many nights we're just getting back from an extracurricular at 8pm
Aly (10½) mostly watches PBS, Disney, & Animal Planet. She also watches 2 games shows--Millionaire (5 days/week--but we don't watch it every day--hardly ever catch it actually) and 5th grader (once/week). She will occasionally watch Ghost Whisperer--that is the edgiest that she watches. I won't turn off Numb3rs if she's in the room, but she'll usually just leave or be pre-occupied with something else.

Does it even play rap? Does it play any music at all? I thought it was just shows now.
I know Punk'd comes on because I went ballistic on Aly the other day for putting that on. A friend called and told her to put it on & they wanted to watch together.
Friend hung up soon after that--guess I'm too strict--OH WELL!
