Hannah's in soccer camp. She didn't sign up with a friend but she's making lots of friends there. I just dropped her off Monday morning and Monday afternoon she was telling me all about this girl and that girl. How about your kids? Can they just jump in and make friends like that?
She draws people to her like flies, but she's actually pretty picky about who she's willing to spend quality time with. She'd prefer to be alone and entertain herself than to spend time with someone she doesn't want to. Her lil clique has really expanded last year so I'm betting this year will bring plenty of new friends over to the house!
Yes, very easily. She has been going to different summer day camps alone since Grade 1 and has never gone with a friend. She is always happily chattering away with other kids by the end of the first day. She was very flattered this year though when her camp counsellor from sculpture last year recognized her and said "Hi Kristen". He is going to be her counsellor for photography in August so she's happy about that.
She was actually a bit disappointed that one of her classmates was in her volleyball camp this year. She likes going and not knowing anyone or seeing a few kids from last year. Didn't help that it was the "dreaded" Sarah. LOL She wanted Kristen to switch volleyball groups to be with her but Kristen refused. (yeah Kristen) Seems that Sarah disappeared Tuesday lunch and has not been back. Not sure if something happened in their family as her cousin is also in the camp and still there or if she just didn't like it. Sarah has always been the best female athlete in their little school with 30 other girls her age. Suddenly she's in a volleyball camp with 140 girls and many of them older and much more accomplished. I think a bit hard for the ego.
But she quite enjoys meeting new people and has no fear of going into those situations. I'm really glad of that because its quite hard for me to do that so its a good skill to have I think.
Nathan makes friends very easily, especially if it is a boy playing a GameBoy! He'll walk right up to them and just chat away. Hannah is a little more reserved. She's not really shy, but not very outgoing. She's well liked at school (boys and girls) but not really in the popular (?) group---I think that is because she is not boy crazy and that seems to be the requirement!LOL. She would probably do ok if she went to a camp where she didn't know anyone...but wouldn't be the life of the party!
