Back to school organization tips?

Back-to-school season always seems to mean a little bit of chaos—there's something new to do every fifteen minutes and everyone in the house is flying in all directions. What are your best tips for fighting hallway clutter, beating back the laundry, keeping the kitchen organized and stocked, and streamlining your home routines during this busy time?

I don't really have any tips. I just feel more scheduled when the kids are in school. I have things more under control, there is less laundry, and the laziness of summer is gone.
I am looking forward to it.

Well back to school season is still a long ways off, with only 4 weeks of vacation down and six more to go, but a week before school starts, everyone starts getting up, having breakfast and getting dressed at normal school/work time so that it's not a rude shock the first day back to school/work and we already feel like it's routine

Our number one is:
Get everything ready for the week on Sunday night.
We pack 5 lunches for everyone...cut up a bunch of veggies, and put them into baggies for each day. Put milk boxes and fruit cups for the week into the fridge etc.

Lay out sets of clothes for the week in the closet.

That makes a huge difference for us.

Those were good tips!

The lunch thing is hard for us. I try to do lunches the night before and I try to keep the kids involved in making them, but half the time I'm doing them during breakfast. My son prefers peanut butter and honey and that is something that doesn't keep well. Freezing a bunch of juice boxes at a time helps in the hot weather. Using a thermos instead of juice boxes saves $$ and trash.

Have a hook or cubby for each child and make sure their backpacks are all set to leave the night before. By their hook have a sign with library day and gym day listed to help remember books and gym shoes (great for those who don't wear gym shoes every day).

For my older son who started having projects due last year; we had a dry erase board where it could be seen from the kitchen table with a breakdown of what he needed done by what day- it required quite a bit of work to get that going. The teacher was willing to help once we asked, but we had to be aggressive in what we needed and why.

*oops, just realized I'm on the older kids board- guess these tips were kinda young*

We haven't had issues in the past of getting ready for school. I try and make sure that everyone has the backpacks ready to go and is up early enough to eat a good breakfast and has time to pack a lunch, etc... without rushing around.
