How do you help your kids...

learn to keep track of their things? Granted the last week or so has been extremely busy but... Since last Friday Evan has lost one homework assignment, one test, and his swim equipment (fins, pull buoys, etc. worth about $50. Oh, and a few weeks ago he lost his jacket which he found the next day. Good thing too because his ipod was in the pocket. It's not a one time thing. I just can't take it any more. I think this means he has entirely too much (and he doesn't have nearly as much as most of the kids he goes to school with). I'm choosing logical consequences for now. If he can't find his swim equipment, he'll just have to buy new stuff. As Tam would say, too bad, so sad. Oh, and I don't even want to talk about socks... Neither one of my kids has more than 4 pairs and they both had at least ten about a month ago! Ahhhhhhh!

Socks are an issue here. They are usually found under the couch. Kristen's pretty good, she's not a loser in the true sense of the word. LOL I think logical consequences are the way to go. He'll have to pay and he'll pay the price at school for not having his homework or test to hand back. Some people seem more genetically prone to lose things it seems. Maybe you've got one. :-)

I have to give DD credit...she's pretty organized and responsible with her stuff for a kid her age.

It's a work in process, believe me, but I simply repeat ad nauseum: "A place for everything and everything in its place." They hear this every time they're looking for a hairbrush, socks, homework papers, sports equipment. And I also let them deal with the consequences of sometimes not having what they need, or not getting to go somewhere because they couldn't find their stuff by the time we're supposed to leave. The one thing I never do: find things for them!
