Friend birthday gift limit...
12

Sorry for just "dropping in" (although I lurk on a regular basis), but I'm wondering how much to spend on DS's friend's birthday gift. The birthday boy is going to be 13. Is $20 enough? Too much? DS wants to just give the boy cash, but I was thinking a gift card instead. Are gift cards too "yeserday?" Is cash now the preferred gift?

I miss the days when I could go to Wal-Mart and get a decent gift for 10 bucks!

Thanks for any input.

For Alexis we do around $15 in the form of a gift. Of her group of five girls all four of the others have birthdays from Nov 30-Jan 1.

If Alexis wants to spend more it must come from her wallet, not mine.

We stick to $10-20 depending on how good of a friend it is.

Hey all Love your siggie tracy.

I agree 15 to 20 dollars is appropriate. I dont think gift cards are out, Jackie got a ton of them on her birthday. I would pick from a music store or the book store that way its something they really want.

I try to stick to around $15 unless its a very special friend then $20. I think g/c are still "hip" but cash is good too. For a gift card something like Walmart or even an American Express gift card are good because they can't be used for lots of different things unlike a Borders card which limits you to books/magazines.

lurking works, Trish - I usually spend 15 to 20. I have Hannah find out what it is they are into. :)

Daisy has gone to 3 birthday parties in the last month, I did a $25 gift card for each one.

We're like most everyone else on here. We spend around $20 depending on who the friend is and we've given gift cards as well.

Thanks for everyone's input. DS talked to his friend and learned the friend is saving money for a camp he wants to attend this next summer, so we just opted for $20 in a card. I'm impressed that the friend thinks that far in advance. My DS would think a month before the camp that he needed to come up w/ XX amount of money! Thanks again.
