Cycling Classes?

Hey there. Question...are cycling classes the same as spinning classes? I am a member at Gold's Gym and know that they have a lot of these cycling classes. Also, I see people leaving them with special shoes. Can you wear regular shoes to these classes? I workout before work often and am interested in trying one of these classes. I appreciate the input!
