Saving? We're supposed to be saving? LOL I only half kid but for me its always travel. Our trip to Florida and NYC and then somewhere this summer. We are definitely going back to visit my parents but there is a chance I MIGHT have to be in London the week before so not sure if I can take some extra time before London and take Kristen to visit some friends in Edinburgh first or what we'll do. Of course I have money in a retirement savings plan and I am putting money in an education savings plan for Kristen's university but if I have any extra money it is all spent on travel.
Kristen is saving for some designer jeans. She's also a spender. LOL She wants something called AppleBottoms which are designed (loosely used term) but the singer Nelly I think. I looked at them on-line and they are just jeans but they have a back pocket shaped like an apple. Oooooooh. They weren't overly expensive. About $75 which is not "cheap" but not $250. We found a couple of stores in Orlando that carry them so when we go to Florida she can try them on and see if they fit. She saved quite a bit for a video camera of which I own about a 1/3 share. :-) But she saved up allowance, birthday money, etc. to pay for over $200 of it.
Ok I can answer since my staff meeting was cancelled....um DH & I are both paranoid about retirement savings...both our parents are retired, have been for the past 10 yrs so we see exactly how the expenses add up. On the other hand we had a financial planner work w/us & it turns out as far as retirement we're fine...we need to step up the college fund savings instead. Since Rach went to MS I no longer have a $500+ expense of childcare but I haven't decided what fund, if any, to invest it in. Need to take some time off to research that now.
Girls are saving money for who knows what, an iPod for Rach I think. Jamie I'm not sure...both my girls are reluctant to part w/any $$ they get (like from Xmas, bdays or other special occasions) so I'm not sure what it is they want. They won't let me open up a young savers account at the bank either...pretty soon I'm going to insist since the $$ don't do anything sitting in a piggy bank, even if they can see it.
What are you saving up for? Nothing specific--but with both brothers just getting engaged and one definitely doing a "destination" wedding--looks like that is what we will be saving up for from here on out, LOL
How about your children?Emily--her 8th grade trip.
What are you saving up for? I work on occasion and get paid once a month. I immediately take out some of my pay for our Maui trip in April. I want to be able to go on a budgie jump w/o worrying about how much it will cost. :)
How about your children? She has a car fund. She puts money she receives for special occasions in there. She gets a weekly allowance which she blows.

Well, we've been saving for a house and some new furniture, and that's going to happen here soon.
