I was wondering if you are from the south.

The term Ma'am makes me cring if anyone says it too me.

The yes ma'am seems to be a southern thing.

No that it isn't poite,it is,it makes me feel old though.

I like when dd's friends call me Mrs......

But I would plotz if they called me ma'am

In the south the kids ARE raised saying "Yes Ma'am" and "No Sir"...every grandma on the block would straighten you out if you were disrespectful! LOL!

It's frustrating to the kids though when we moved North to have

Like I said as long as they call me Mrs so and so or for Gab's good friend's I am even ok with nthem calling me Laura

The ma'am just makes me feel old,it is polite and mannerly, but it would drive me nuts, being called ma'am day in and day out.

On a funny note Gab had her dance teache for school classes yesterday and in dance they call her by her 1st name,so when she walked ino class she slipped up and called her by her 1st name instead of Miss....,which isn't ok for school

I live in the south but am from Maryland. My DD goes to a private school and is expected to use "Ma'am and Sir" in addressing teachers. I don't have a problem with it.. as I think it's very respectful sounding. Since they have to say it at school.. why not at
