People to People?

My daughter is going on a People to People student ambassador trip this summer. Has your child ever done this or anything similar?
I am very happy with the quality of the leaders, and from what I've seen, of the kids in her group. However, I'm a little anxious about my dd's lack of life experience. She's very mature for her age and really pursued this, so I know she's ready, but she's rather clueless about a lot of things.
I'd love to hear from others whose kids have gone abroad without their parents. Also, do you have a good source for teen-friendly travel clothing you can wash in a sink? (There won't be any opportunities to wash clothes in a laundry and she's limited to one bag for a 3 week trip.)

My nephew did the Australia trip with People to People a couple of years ago. He was 16, so a bit older than your DS. It was a wonderful experience for him. His cousin also was on the trip, so that made it a bit easier for my sister to let him go!
My DS (now 12) has been invited to go on three of the People to People trips, one to Hawaii and two to Australia. The first couple of years we just thought he was too young. And honestly, expense was a big part of our decision. The last time he was invited we'd already made travel arrangements for our family to spend a couple of weeks in the Bahamas, so again, expense played a factor in our decision. We simply couldn't afford a big family vacation as well as this great opportunity for him to go to Australia.
I'm sure your DD is very excited about the trip. Is it Australia again this year?

My son has been invited to attend a few years now and we never went for it.
Not familiar with that program but when I was 16 I went with our school marching band to Europe for 3 weeks. It was the best experience of my life (well, my young life LOL). We were divided into groups of 6-8, each with an adult/parent supervisor. Mine was the Mom of one of the girls in our group I knew well (as did my parents) so it was fine. We did billet out with families in Germany and Holland so we were able to do laundry. I don't really remember the details of that stuff, that part quickly escapes the teenage brain. :-)

My
DD has gotten the invites but we found the cost prohibitive. We are rather cheap travelers so we could all go for the cost of her to go alone. I was particulary surprised with how much they charged for
Her trip is to the UK. Different regions go to different places.
The expense is rather high. She's definitely trying to earn some money for it.
