Varicose Veins (some whining)

Has anyone experienced these awful things? I'm a nurse, so a lot of it has to do with standing for long periods of time. I've had them for 14 years now....way too long. I had vein stripping about 10 years ago. Now I have a new one on my right leg that really hurts. They make me feel old and depressed. They're ugly and they hurt. I just had an ultrasound yesterday and he said I have reflux in my deep vein system, basicaly my blood flow isn't right in my legs. It's scary because I have some clots in my right leg where the new one is.
I have to wear compression stockings. They make my legs feel better, but these things are uncomfortable and hard to put on. The weird thing is, this isn't hereditary for me and usually it is.
The clots aren't deep so I guess it's not dangerous, but I still don't like it.
Just looking for any f you who have experienced these veins and what you did or how you managed psychologically with them.
BTW: I'm not obese...but all my pregnancies helped contribute to this.
Had to whine...sorry but it's tough on me lately.
I'm going to take a class about them and get some procedures done...and I have a low pain tolerance.
Thanks for listening

I only have Sherina, but mine are hereditary.
IKWYM about standing long hours; I am a substitute teacher & I have to do the same.
take care and let us know what you decide.
So do you wear the support hose all the time? I got some new ones yesterday that are pretty comfortable. But, yeah, I partially blame myself for not being consistent in wearing them.
But you can get some ok looking ones now.
Did you ever get anything done to your veins?
Kim
I haven't looked into the types of support hose available now--I'll have to check that out when I shop this weekend.
I get the medical support hose 30-40 support, which is the highest level. You can go to www.foryourlegs.com to see support hose. You have to measure your legs. I got the Jobst brand, I like them better then the Mediven. These are on sale for about $57 now...I paid $93 for panty hose last week from the hospital I go to! So, these aren't just the kind you buy off the shelf. They're expensive, but worth it I guess.
do you have spider veins or the real big varicose ones like me? :(
I have both.
My insurance covers the surgery if it's medically necessary, that's why they do an ultrasound of your legs.
Kim
Mom passed along her spider veins...blech!
I didn't know you could buy support hose @ a hospital--I'll have to check mine out!
Any medical supply store should also have them. I went to the hospital's varicose vein clinic and they ordered them...they might have ordered them from the same place I found online. Yeah, they have to measure your legs so you get the right fit....these are high compression compared to what's in the store. That's good if you just have spider veins, you might not need high compression like me.
good luck!
Kim
You should try an ionic foot bath and also talk to your local health food store for some remedies -- I've had them since early teens and when I take my remedies they good way down ;-)
