Hil ladies! It is -20 outside today. School was cancelled but I still came into the office. The kids are at home playing Wii and doing laundry. We did a trade off. Normally they aren't allowed to
Yes, I am freezing my patooties off!!! When I woke up this morning it was -5! That's 5 degrees BELOW zero!!! Got the kids off to school without incident - that's two days in a row (woo hoooooo). I even managed to quiz Evan on his Latin vocabulary while he was unloading the dishwasher without incident (he did well to - 1 wrong out of 40 words). I had a piano lesson after I dropped the kids off. It was really fun. I'm working on a George Winston arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon. It's beautiful (the arrangement, not my playing - yet). I'm learning new techniques so I'm loving it!! :)
Very staggered schedule tonight (Megan swims 5:45 - 6:45 and Evan swims from 6:45 - 8:15) so we're having chili night. I've got one kind with beans and one without and I'll put out cheese, onions, etc. and salad and people can eay when they're ready.
I'm not doing much today except curling up under a blanket to stay warm. Just laundry and maybe some light work around the house. Maybe I'll jump on the Wii Fit a little later this afternoon. Kids have an early release day tomorrow and no school on Monday (MLK day).
BTW - anyone following our financial and dh's job saga: he's spending some of the time between tasks or while waiting for responses at his current job looking for a new one. Yeah!!! He's also going to ask one of his current clients if there might be a position for him there. I don't think it violates any non-compete clauses he has at the moment. The only negative about him getting a new job is it lowers the chance that he'll receive the 10's of thousands he's owed in back pay.
Keeping records and paycheck stubs is a GREAT idea Tracy. I'm not sure how much he'll want to pursue it because it is a friend of his and he gave him this job when he really needed it. It's a tough call...
Evan is in 6th grade and taking Latin for the second year. In our district the kids pick a language in fourth grade and take it from 5th through 8th grades. They can continue the language in high school or choose a new one. Evan chose Latin because we encouraged him and my parents told him they would take him to Europe if he did. The kids who take German get to go to Germany and that really appealed to him. He's glad he made the choice now (even without the trip). The teacher is FANTASTIC!! He's teaching the kids about ancient Rome and brings in carmel brownies whenever the kids do really well at something (test, behavior, etc.) They can have the recipe if they come back and visit once they're in 7th grade. They studied Roman government too. Last year he had the kids do a project of their own choosing and Evan made a model of an aqueduct. He shows current movies about ancient Rome they even have "Roman" food. One day he had a toga party (not like from Animal House) and all of the kids decorated their togas like different Roman gods. I guess what I'm saying is the teacher makes all the difference when it comes to Latin. Evan is finding it really helpful when it comes to English too. Latin is helping him understand things like direct objects and of course spelling and vocabulary.
I think at least a year of Latin would be a GREAT choice for Jordyn. It will do wonders for spelling and vocabulary. If she's thinking about medicine or law it's almost a must.
French is a great idea as well. It is all over literature. I think everyone should have a year or two of one of the romance languages because they are such a part of the arts and literature.
Good luck to Jordyn! Let me know if she has questions we can help answer.

What grade is Eric in again?
