DH and I have a very lax attitude about gift giving on V-day. Actually we have a lax attitude about gifts in general. We sometimes don't even give each other birthday gifts. That's just not our love language, although I always wecome a box of Godiva chocolates.
The kids used to have to bring valentines to everyone in their classes when they were in elementary school. we'd just buy the boxes of non-embarrassing premade cards from Target, stick a pixy stick inside and that was it.
My son is in 6th grade and doesn't give valentines anymore. My daughter, who's in 8th grade, thinks she has to give candy to every single one of her friends for every single holiday. She's terrified to leave anyone out. It makes me crazy.
The second to last day before Christmas break started, she casually mentioned that she needed to do a few more gift bags for her friends and could I please, please help her because she was buried in algebra homework. So I asked, "Well how many bags do you need?" And she started counting all the possible people who might get hurt if she forgot them. Finally she looked up and said, "Seventeen, but maybe you should do nineteen in case I forgot someone." So I scrambled to
Yes, we do celebrate Valentine's Day. I have a hard time with the dead of Winter, and it's the one holiday to break things up between Christmas and Easter, and falls at such a yucky time of year, it kind of brightens the mood. . . Plus I love a holiday that just celebrates LOVE!! ;)
Valentine's Day also has meaning for us as a couple, because it is the day that my DH first let me know that he was interested in me in a romantic way, LOL. We were in Biology lab in 10th grade, and he gave me a handful of Hershey's Kisses, and said "Maybe someday soon these will turn into real kisses." I was over the moon, since I had had a major (secret) crush on him. . . Corny, I know, LOL. . . But not long after that, he finally got up the guts to ask me out!
My hubby is also *extremely* romantic (moreso than I am!) and has always outdone himself for me on Valentine's Day. I usually get him a suit to wear for Spring, and for a couple of years now, I've sent a dozen red roses to him at work.
This year, I have been very busy lately while he's at work, scanning all the romantic pictures we have together from over the years. I'm not including most of our wedding pictures, since there are too many. Like I said, we've been together since our sophomore year of high school (Minus our college years!), so we have A TON OF PICTURES of the two of us together, often cuddling or being romantic, and so I decided to scrounge them all up and get them together in one place as a gift to him. I'm putting them on a disc, accompanied with music that has meaning for us, and it will be like a slide show. I'll surprise him with champagne and candlelight and have him watch it :)
As for the kids, they give out Valentine's to their classmates. They have fun doing those. I also get them a little treat---cards, some candy and maybe a small gift. My girls were most likely conceived on Valentine's Day, so there is a special place for them in our hearts on that day as well.
1) What are your thoughts about Valentines Day? Do you celebrate?
**I like to do a little something for Valentines Day...I'll make something special for dinner and do something nice for DH, since he doesn't like to receive gifts.
1) What are your thoughts about Valentines Day? Do you celebrate?
Valentine's Day is a sweet holiday. We usually buy cheap gifts for each other including Aly.
2) Do you gift your child/children on Valentine's Day. Share the most memorable.
Yes, but I can't really think of memorable. I remember her picking out a purple monkey one year..lol. I think. If I could find the Twilight Sweethearts, that would totally be memoralbe..lol.

Valentine's Day is a VERY.BIG.DAY in our home. My daughter was born on that day, 11 years ago!
Other than that, it's one of those Hallmark holidays that we ignore, other than giving the kids a bit of candy that morning. Dh and I don't celebrate.

We kind of celebrate.

Just call me QUEEN OF CORNY!!
My answers:
1) What are your thoughts about Valentines Day? Do you celebrate?
Sure, it's corny to have only one day devoted to love, but hey, I celebrate it to show DH & DD how I feel.
