out of control high blood pressure!

Every time I buy BC pills, they take my BP because the clinic doesn't allow you to buy pills if your BP is over a certain number. Yesterday the clinic almost didn't sell me pills because my BP was sky high.

Before last fall, my BP was consistently in the 100-110 range for systolic for at least the past 10 years.

Here are my last few readings:

11/11/08: 120/80
11/20/08: 136/89
1/16/09: 138/80 (lowest of 3 readings that the nurse took. The highest was 141/90)

It is really disturbing that my BP would sky rocket so suddenly, considering that I seriously reduced my sodium intake about a year ago and we all know I certainly don't have problems getting enough exercise....

Both my parents have high BP, it would just SUCK to have to go on BP meds at age 30 due to bad genes.

Going to call my doctor on Monday...

:(

I just read an article today that mentioned how exercising in very cold weather will definitely cause your blood pressure to increase. Sounds like you've been doing a lot of that lately and perhaps that's causing the problem.

Have you thought about buying a bp cuff and monitoring your bp yourself?

Is this article online? I'd like to read it.

FST, yes, I would like to buy a BP cuff and take readings right after getting out of bed for awhile. I did take my BP at the grocery store today (not sure about the accuracy of those machines), but the reading was MUCH better, 126/80.

This past weekend, my dad gave me an extra BP cuff that he had lying around, and I've been tracking my BP every morning upon waking.

So far, every reading except 1 has been in the 11x-8x range. I even took my BP today at the gym right after running 8K and it was still 117/84.

The next time I go to the birth control clinic, I'm going to print out my BP tracking log. Either their cuff is seriously broken or I have a terrible case of the 'white coat syndrome'.

It's possible that it is the white coat syndrome, too.

That must be such a relief!
