I got asked by the Utah Coalition against Domestic Violence to be the guest speaker at their fundraising gala in October! Cool, huh? I'm so stoked. I'm a little nervous though. Not to speak publically, but that I may not be a totally acceptable candidate as it used to be called Legal Aid and they would offer legal services to those who didn't have money. Needless to say, for the divorce, Steve got to them before I did, so I couldn't use them. But when I emailed her back I told her that but also told her I would still love to speak, tell my story, and explain to people how important it is to support this cause. I hope it flies.
It started because I emailed the guy who connected Mark Hacking to DV and thanked him. I had met him once at a wedding for a dear friend of his and made that connection with him as well. I volunteered my services any time I could possibly help and he forwarded my email to the lady running the gala. She emailed me and asked if I would really be willing to speak anytime and anywhere. So it sort of sounds like they are looking for a Victim Presenter ~ and I would be an awesome speaker! Yes, I get anxiety and panic attacks, but speaking publically has never really bothered me.
I'm so excited right now, I just want to jump out of my skin. The opportunity to tell 350 people my story and how important legal help is for women like us? Life is good!
