Just to get it started. Red plan, no lites.
7/5, joined up. 253.6 lbs.
7/10, meal plan day. 251.4 lbs.
7/12, first official weigh in. 249.6 lbs. Total loss 4 lbs.
7/19, second official weigh in. 245.8 lbs. Total loss 7.8 lbs.
I had no (official) questions, and she had absolutely nothing to say about my food journal. (Because it's all there, no cheats.)
Now, just gotta do that 39 more times!

Cool. Sounds like my goal is realistic, then. Seeing as I could NOT remember how much I weighed back in high school, the last time I was thin/normal-sized, I guessed 170. So, cool!
Jacqui, I tried your maximum heart rate test this morning at the gym. I still haven't done the true resting heart rate test, but I'll try to do that next weekend. Anyway, I ran for about 10 minutes, and then I put the incline at 5%, then back down to 0% (5% was hard! I needed a rest!) and so forth, just as you instructed. (Wow, running hills was a GREAT interval! I need to do that more often--I bet it'll really firm up my tushie!) I didn't get to all eight intervals because I was just getting too tired and too hot. I think I did five intervals. My max was 165 the last time. The day I'd done the 40 minute run, I'd run the last 10 minutes around 170 bpm, by the way. So, I'm not sure, but either I didn't get my max heart rate because I didn't do the last intervals, or that day I ran 40 minutes, I was running at my max. What do you think? I just couldn't get my HR past 164 this morning, even though I felt like I was going to blow a gasket! I haven't been that sweaty at the gym since August, honestly.
After that mile run plus the HR testing stuff, I did hill walking and fast walking for the rest of the hour. My legs and hips are sore from the kickboxing yesterday. I feel great!
I had beer and wings last night. Bad girl, I know. I was up 3 lbs this morning as a result, but I'll pump the water like crazy and see what happens tomorrow.
All good.
Happy Sunday!
Jess
YOU have done wonderful Jess!!
Sounds like you are enjoying life a bit more too..
I have to
Hi Jess!
First, let me say I'm sooooo jealous! Sounds like a fantastic run :) The highest number you've ever seen... the 170... I would use that as your MHR. The fitter you get, the harder it is to hit your MHR because you are in better shape. Someone who does zero cardio would get up there in no time. Makes sense?
There is a saying "hills are speedwork in disguise". One of my favorite workouts is setting the speed of the TM at a comfortable pace and then every minute raising the incline, then go flat for a minute, etc. At first you'll be thinking how easy it is and maybe your speed should be faster. But then you get to hill #5 and WOW! Oh, your tushie will be lovin' you the next AM. And it does incredible things for your calves and hamstrings too. No wiggles!
I'm dying to know what your resting HR is. You ARE the cardio machine! I bow down to you :)
Jacqui
HI jess
Your workouts sound amazing. I am really committing myself to get back. I am seeing a pilates instructor tomorrow for an assessment to do pilates weekly on tues nights. It is for 10 weeks. I am also setting myself up to go to the gym on my lunch.
I am down a few this week and I was going to do take off but i am saving the torture until i stabilize. I am 136.8 at home and I may weigh in tomorrow. I usually do tues thurs and fri. ( i missed last fri but the counsellor i like was away and the others bother me)
Hope you are doing well
Linda
How'd the Pilates go, Linda?
I'm doing okay. I was up a few pounds Sunday and yesterday, either as the result of kickboxing and subsequent water-weight-as-muscle-fibers-heal or as the result of eating wings and drinking beer during the Eagles game Saturday night. (I know, shame on me.) I tend to think it's actually the former, since the last time I did kickboxing, I gained FIVE pounds in water weight the next day(s). Anyway, I bumped from 188 up to 191.6 Sunday, then 190.6 yesterday, then 189.0 today. I've been parked at 188-ish for weeks now, so it's time to get stuff moving. I think I need to change my workouts a little to shake it up, and eat super clean for a week or two....see how that goes. I'll try to get to the pool tomorrow night, seeing as I haven't swam in two months now. I miss it!
I tried on size 10 jeans at Old Navy last night. Of course, I picked THE WRONG cut for a test like that--I was trying on a super-skinny jean. Oops! So they barely even fit on my (swollen) calves, and I certainly couldn't button them. But I got them up (mostly) on my butt. 12s (in any cut but super skinny) definitely fit better than the 10s, but 14s are still a smidge more comfortable, so that's what I'm buying. Got some sweaters on clearance at Target last night, too, in large. LARGE. Not XL. Amazing.
Anyhoo, it's almost lunch time. Yay! I'm HONGRY!

It's been a while for one of these:
Red plan, no lites:
B: egg whites, oatmeal, skim milk
Sn: pear
L: salad, salmon, 1/2 ww muffin, string cheese
D: ?? (going out with a new date)
Workout: running and such, TBD.
hey, jess. sounds like you're doing great. nice meal choices today. any idea where dinner will be? hope you have fun on the date!
eating clean is an excellent strategy. saw that you'd had wings one night -- tons of sodium, as you know. so you probably still have some water weight on you. but going to non-processed foods should get that off soon and have you feeling terrific.
how great you were able to find some cool clothes at target. going down a size is always cause for celebration!!
well, i too need to eat clean for a while. have had too many processed foods lately, but will try to get back on the straight and narrow soon. but this week will probably be relaxed since i'm home w/ds who's recovering from surgery.
hey, can you remind me how you make your rutabaga again? i got one, but am not sure what to do with it. you're the expert on that. what's good for a rutabaga-newbie? ;-) also got some spaghetti and acorn squash to try. want to branch out in my veggies. i may be slipping into the same-old-same-old monotony and want to shake things up a bit.
best,
mel

Hey Mel!
yeah, the wings were a really bad choice, but for whatever reason, I could not resist. So, I'll just say that I REALLY enjoyed them. (And really felt full and yucky when I was done.)
Rutabaga!! This is my favorite recipe. (P.S. I JUST made some last night!) Peel and quarter the rutabaga and boil for 15 minutes. Peel and quarter some turnips or parsnips and some potato, put in the pot with the rutabaga and boil an additional 15 minutes. Drain. Add a cream of some kind, just a splash (I used fat-free half-and-half last night, cuz that's all the store had) and a butter or margarine of some kind (you don't need to use much, quite honestly. 2 tbsp for the whole batch? And I'm talking 3 large rutabagas and several turnips and one potato). Mash! Season with salt and pepper as you wish, and I always include some dill.
I have no idea where I'm going tonight! I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something good and on-plan wherever we go. Despite the wings-cheating the other night, I'm pretty good about eating on plan anywhere.
Jess
P.S. Anyone have any input on sports bras?
I normally buy mine from RoadRunnerSports.com, at $40 a pop, and they're absolutely great. But $40 is a little steep, so last night, I bought two new ones at Target for $13 each. I'm going to give one of them a chance tonight, see if my 36Ds are securely strapped in for the ride of their lifetime! HA! Seriously, I need something to lock them down to my chest so I don't get terribly self conscious as I run. These seem pretty sturdy, but I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts.
Jess
thanks for the quick recipe. i will print out and try tonight! can't wait. do you think it'd work well w/o the turnip? don't have any on hand.
enjoy your time out tonight. you're really good at navigating eating out, so i'm sure you'll do fine. and enjoy your time with the new guy.

i buy the cheap hanes sports bras at wally world. three in a pack for about $15. guess it depends on how much support you need. if the target ones do the job, why pay more? ;-)
victoria's recently launched a fitness line, too, if you want to drop bigger bucks on sports bras. i tried one on -- felt great. but i'd rather splurge on the nice bras to wear under tees, etc., rather than the ones i sweat in!! :-)
