Hello everyone! I'm in the middle of week 3 and I thought I better start one of these journals to keep myself in line. I tried to start one a few weeks ago and I screwed it up somehow so I'm starting over! Here's a little info on me. My name is Mary Rose, age 50. My husband and I are doing this together. We both have hit a 50 age crisis! Him more than myself. Ha! Sleep apnea, HBP, family diabetes, etc. I've had HBP for 23 years and I don't think that will change much. We had a major loss in our life 26 months ago when we lost our 20 year old son. He was in an auto accident and he died from injuries he sustained in that accident. I'd say we started the uncontrollable eating, eating out..I'm sure you know what I mean. SO..here we are. Thank God we're doing this together! It's so much easier. My goal is 54 lbs. and his 80 lbs. A NEW LIFE!

Memorial weekend was very hard on us. I did okay but it was hard! He didn't fair as well. He was the cook at our nephew's graduation party and you can only imagine how that went. He's been a snacker while he cooks from way back. He's definitely paying for it now. We weigh in tonight and he's not thinking it's going to go well. I don't think I've lost my 2 lbs but I don't think I've gained either. We'll see.

I'll be back because I've got a long way to go!!

hey, rosie! doesn't applebee's have a lot of ww friendly fare? if so, check into those options. stick moreso with higher protein and veggie dishes instead of those with bread. but you'll still come out with loads of sodium, i guess. maybe you can order hot water with lemon at your meal?

hi, rosie! hope you have a terrific weekend started . . .

you asked: "So I guess this question to maintainers.....what can I really expect in the early weeks of maintenance? When do I really have to worry????"

i think it's natural to bounce up closer to the higher end of your goal range during early maintenance. and it will probably continue to go back and forth as you progress in maintenance as well. personally, if i notice my clothes getting tight, that's when i begin to worry. and i often do a combination of things to get my clothes looser: cut back in starches, and/or go back to weight loss mode for a couple of weeks, and/or crank my cardio up a notch or two by adding more intensity and more sessions.

sure hope this helps, rosie. other maintainers, what do you recommend for rosie?

Hi Mary Rose,

Do you have the Maintaining booklet yet? in it it labels food Green - eat as often as you want, yellow eat occassionaly and Red it rarely -- anyway the booklet recommends picking more of the foods from weight loss the green ones -- chicken breast vs dark meat, skim milk vs reduced fat milk etc.

Also - be sure as Mel stated to keep your exercise level consistent -- and understand that your weight will fluctuate -if it is up more than 3-5 lbs then you need to take care . For me doing strength training on a regular basis really helped me maintain -- as well as also keeping the food journal.

As far as the extra food added in -- I would be sure to get in the extra fruit, veggies, and dairy and 1/2 a protien -- and then if you feel you need it have the extra starch.

My weight has slowly crept up on me this last few months- so my goals are simple -- to try and bring lunch - eat my snacks and get my water in -- and enough sleep. Hopefully if I do all these I can be back within 5 lbs of goal by the end of May.

hi, rosie. i agree everyone is different. if you have a trigger food that you know sends you out of control -- by all means, avoid it!!! sometimes we're able to work through that and get past it -- and eat in moderation -- other times, not. so do what works for you!

hope you have a good day at work. don't overthink maintenance. just keep doing what you're doing. :-)
