Hi! I really need some motivation and everybody seems so encouraging so I thought I would join. I am 33 and the mother of 2 daughters (9&7). I need to lose 30#'s. After the birth of my 2nd child I actually got back into great shape. Due to unfortunate family circumstances, I basically stopped taking care of myself. Now I am back with this uphill battle again! So frustrating!
I started on my path about a week ago-exercising faithfully, increasing my water intake and overall being much more careful about what was going in my mouth:)I stepped on the scale and of course, have lost absolutely nothing-more frustration!
I tend to be a breakfast skipper, but I noticed a lot of people saying to eat 5-6 meals/day. Do most of you find that to be helpful to keep your metabolism up?
Thanks for your time and I appreciate any advice/words of encouragement you can give.

Hi K

Dont worry, sounds like you are doing things right, it just takes the body a bit to realize you mean business and this is how its going to be!

Yes, I find I am able to lose weight easier if I eat regular meals, breakfast lunch dinner, instead of just here and there when hungry.......I dont have a daily schedule so thats something "I" have to concentrate on to get right

You being a mom, Im sure you have many routines, and adding breakfast will just get things going smoother, and will teach your children thats its good to do

Have a good one,

Gayle

Hi And welcome!

In my case eating 5-6 meals seemed too much trouble, so instead I'm eating snacks, it helps me to eat all my veggies and to not eat too much during my "main meals".

It could help you to keep track of what you eat and how many calories. I think a lot of people here go on fitday.com or nutridiary.com.

Seems like you're on the right track, so keep up the good habits and weight loss will come :)

I know what you mean about family circumstances throwing you off course. I was doing so good for over a month, aerobics five times a week, strength three times. I was seriously motivated after a miscarriage to just get things in order. I was so proud of myself. Then I got word that my cousin was killed by a drunk driver, and I just stopped. It was like I couldn't emotionally deal with anything else. But now I am trying again, thank goodness. Tired of the clothes I like not looking right on me...
Anyway,
I have never tried to 5-6 meals a day, I can't organize myself that well. I grew up in a family that ate three HUGE meals a day, plus snacks! But I hear from EVERYONE who has tried it that it really really works. It is supposed to really keep your metabolism going. I don't try it because I am afraid I would overdo the "small" part and have big meals and gain weight. Sorry I wasn't much help.

I wasn't suggesting that I be able to do a magazine spread after a week. I was just hoping to see the scale inch down 1 pound. Sort of a positive reinforcement for doing the right thing. I'm continuing to plod on though! I had breakfast with my girls this morning. Thanks for your advice!
Its ironic. After I posted that message, I was all set to go for a walk before dinner. My youngest daughter fell and we ended up in the ER! She got 10 stitches and we didn't get home until 10:30 last night. She is fine, but it just reminded me as focussed as we can be, there are things that jump in our path and derail our best intentions. I thought the rest of you moms could appreciate and identify with my frustarations.
Today has been a better day and I'm set for my walk tonight when my husband gets home!
