Hi,I am 40 years old, and had an visit with my MD this week. She told me what I already knew-I am fat and need to lose weight (not in those exact words! lol)I need to lose about 75lbs. and even though I know what I should be doing, I am having a hard time getting motivated. Any suggestions??
Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the board.
Only you can decide to get serious, but I agree with Krista, that coming on the boards does help.
Funny you should ask about what the MD suggested. First, I told her my BIL took flaxseed oil (a supplement) and his cholosterol went down and what did she think. She proceeded to tell me she was unaware of flaxseed oil, but she has a "friend" that has a "nutritional supplement program" and diet that has been successful. Whe I said I might be interested, thinking she would give me her number, she called her friend right from the exam room! Talk about being put on the spot. She handed me the phone, and I told her I did not have my calendar with me and I would call her later. When I didn't call, she (the friend) called me and I set up and appointment-at her house. So I go over this week and she pulles out this box of stuff called The Trim Body System. She gave me a sales pitch and I told her I had to think about it. So, when I got home and researched the company, it turned out to be an Amway company. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I talked to my local pharmacist, and he was familiar with the MD and told be to get a new MD right away-that the MD practice was associated with a local hospital which has a very good nutritional program and that is where they should have been referring me. Now don't get me wrong-I know I need to lose the weight, and have actually done some research on Weight Watchers, but I think this was totally unethical. So, now not only do I need to find a dient, but a new MD!
All that being said, I have begun this week 2 changes-to have yogurt and cracklin oat bran (high fiber) for breakfast, and have started waling the dog for 1/2 hour in the a.m. and I have lost 2 lbs! But the fiber is killing me, if you know what I mean LOL.
Well, thanks for all the ideas! I'll keep in touch on the boards.
Have a great night!!!!!

I can't believe your doctor had the nerve, and a pretty unprofessional one at that, to put that kind of pressure on you! It seems like she should be reported to somebody, maybe the office manager?
Congratulations on your 2 pound loss! You're on the right track. I don't know if you're familiar with Weight Watchers but their plan is essentially high fiber and low fat. I lost 50 pounds on the plan without ever going to a meeting. I'm still working hard on it but have a messed up thyroid which is throwing my metabolism off. Hopefully when I get that on track, the pounds will start coming off again.
Good luck on both the diet and doctor search! Keep up the good work!
Welcome, and congrats on your first loss, For me a couple of things have helped alot. One is doing something I like which turned out to be biking, two having a big target but striving for small goals along the way. One mini goal for me was to get up to 10 miles biking and I did, then I wanted to do it in the hardest gear, both which I do routinly now. The other side of that is to make smoothies for breakfast at least 5 times a week. I find accomplishing the small things helps lead to more and more confidence in what I CAN do.
