Hi All!

I am a freshman in college. I weigh about 260 pounds, and I really want to lose weight. I want to excersize but I don't want to spend $65 a year to use the gym here. Are there any good excersizes that I could do in my room (with little space needed) or any DVD's to buy or anything like that?? I also need help and support on what to eat and how to just keep me from eating too much. Any tips? Also if this isn't the right board could you please direct me to a diffferent one? Thank you so much!

I want to do this so bad for myself. I've never had a boyfriend and I've never felt like a guy sees me and says "WOW!" lol.. Well thanks again!

Welcome aboard! I'm fairly new too, and I am really enjoying this board. Great support and just kind of a place to go to help me gather my focus. First thing you should do is head to the library either on campus or the local public library. Our local library even has videos to borrow, I don't know if they have exercise videos but its FREE. And get some books on nutrition/dieting/healthy living. Depending on how you want to adjust your diet, I would purchase a book on that subject so you have constant reference. Personally, I am doing a low-cal low-fat kind of thing, so I bought a little book (99 cents) with nutritional information for various foods, even bought one for fast-food. I'm not paying much attention to carbs at this time because I find that entirely too hard for me and my life. Some good and inexpensive options I have found, I found some pre-packaged thin sliced meats like turkey and ham (of course pre-packaged isn't the best for you, but I figure it's still better than a snickers bar and I can't afford to go to the deli case) and each package is like $3 and you get about 60 slices (6 servings). A serving of turkey is like 100 calories and 9g fat, ham is 70 calories and 5g fat. A serving size is 10 thin slices, for lunch I might have 5-7 slices and for supper I would have 10 slices, I combine that with 5-10 low-fat crackers (5 crackers have 60 cals and 0 fat) and then I add some kind of veggies. I'm partial to baby carrots or a fresh tomato. Or substitute the meat for a can of tuna in water. I don't even add mayo or anything, just eat it out of the can and put it on a cracker! Cereal is another good choice for lunch, snack or supper. Just watch what kind of cereal and use skim milk. As far as exercise, there are tons of mall-walkers across the country. Even my small community (25,000 people) has an official "group". And that's free. So are stairs. I bet your dorm has stairs you could run up & down. But if that doesn't work for you, head to some other public place where you can "travel" the stairways without being considered a weirdo. Or if you don't already have a job, check into getting part time job at the gym or even at a child care center (kids keep you hopping) besides it would help keep you active and away from eating. So there's my 2 cents. Good luck & we'll see you on the boards!

Hey,

Thanks for the advice. I already have the Walk Away the Pounds for the Abs tapes and I've done them before but I get off of a schedule and never have time but now that I'm at college I somehow have more time. I can't start them yet b/c they are at home, but I am going home this weekend and get them. The one mile is too easy for me so I only do the 2 mile, I tried the 3 mile, but that about killed me, that might be a once a week thing, whereas I could do the other one more often.

I feel like I eat pretty healthy and I always have water bottles in my room, I just can't seem to lose any weight. I also don't have any scales with me so I don't know what I weigh now, I am going to try to get some to keep here at college. I also do not buy any snacks to keep in my room, if i have nothing to eat then I won't. I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have to go to class but Thanks again for all of your advice I really appreciate it. I will let you know how much I weigh and what my goal weight is soon! Thanks!
