A death in the family--"Getting Serious" and "Getting Started Boards"

iVillage has cancelled Jessica's Boards, effective the end of July. Although the deadline for the July exercise is now the 18th, Jessica told us she will be around till the end of the month to monitor for comments and questions.

Of course we who are regulars there are heartbroken and feel disenfranchised.

I'll be seeing more of you here now. Unless they're dropping this one too, that is. Hope to see you in the chats, however, or at another writing community.

Lou, what are we going to do? (m)

I'm so upset that we won't have class any more. I'm going to miss Jessica very much. As far as I know, the SSB board will remain so I hope we can continue to post our stories here and get feedback. As you know already, it's so vitally important for writers to give and receive critiques.

Please keep in touch!

Louanna.....sorry about your favorite board, glad to...m

get the chance to thank you for the encouraging words...way back in June... my days have been busy and have only checked in but no time to sit and answer or enjoy the boards. Came home, posted a story and was gone again. Wasn't sure how to find you once the SS board archived.

Will look forward to reading your work on SS.

Thanks again, and I hope your 60th year brings you joy, contentment, and continued happy writing.

Isn't it horrible? I'm going to miss the Getting Started Board also (m)

I've used that board for over a year and now, I will have to totally depend on this board and all you wonderful Ladies to teach me to write. Its a terrible shame, Jessica and her writing classes will be missed so! Is this board going to stay?

I'm confused (m)

aren't we jumping to conclusions? as I understand it, it's Jessica who's being canned, and her writing class, NOT the boards.

Or do you know something I don't?

Yes, I think we all (including myself) (m)

are jumping to conclusions. I guess we're fearing that the boards might disappear along with Jessica. But since the SSB board isn't part of the writing class, I pretty sure we're here to stay!

Hi, Mary Ann!

Thanks, girlfriend. I think it was your last piece on this board that I read and enjoyed very much. You're a good writer. Will see you here more often now, and look forward to reading more of you.

Elailah, all I know is...

..that Jess wrote that we have only till July 18th to post our July exercise, but she will be around till the end of the month. Both Boards introduce her as the writing coach for those writers who are "getting started" and "getting serious", so I'd think they'd have to revamp even the name unless they put in another writing coach, which, now that you mention it, would be a viable option. Your point is well taken.

She responded to a post on "getting serious" during the past few days, saying that she intends to continue teaching online, so several of us are lining up to follow her wherever she goes.

BTW, I still remember that great piece of yours in Blue Moon!

Quite Frankly, I'm Angry!

Not only has Jessica announced that she will no longer be affiliated with ivillage, one of the nicest people I have met since I came here (hedgehog) has also said she's leaving. I posted a message on the "Getting Started" board asking numerous questions about the changes, including: "does ivillage's recent merger with women.com have anything to do with their decision to eliminate Jessica's position."

I have not received an answer to my questions yet.

I'm sure ivillage has crunched the numbers and believe this is a good corporate decision, but I, for one, am very disappointed!

Patty, I understand exactly how you (m)

feel but don't get discouraged with Ivillage completely. While I don't agree (at all) with cancelling Jessica's class, I think it's important to keep the SSB alive. We have a lot of great writers here and I want to keep our relationship going.

So, I hope you don't give up on us. You've become an asset to our group!
