How about a ROLLCALL? We haven't (m)

done this in a while, and we have some new member we'd love to get acquainted with. Just take a minute to introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about you, your hopes, your fantasies about writing or anything else you'd like to share with us.

Robert Service....

Can't say I was ever into Robert Service. The quote is from the first line of The Cremation of Sam McGee. ---

There are strange things done 'neath the midnight sun By the men who moil for gold;

The Arctic trails have their secret tales That would make your blood run cold;

The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, But the queerest they ever did see

Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge I cremated Sam McGee.

Shmoopy2!

Hello everyone - I'm 32 and recently left the exciting and glamourous world of automotive engineering to be a stay-at-home mom to a precocious 17 month old and a naughty dog.

I don't think my short stories are ready to publish yet, but I've written a few essays that I'm going to try to sell.

I'm just glad that I've finally got time to spend on my writing. (That time tends to be at midnight, but I don't have to get up at 5AM anymore!)

I'm so happy to have found these ivillage boards - they're what got me writing more regularly. I also love the Tiny Tuesday exercises - I like having more than one exercise a month.

Happy writing!

As I was reading your post (m)

about the flies it made me think of Amityville Horror but I can't remember for the life of me why they had all those flies in that one room. Oh well, I'm not implying that's why you have them. You know me, I'm a weirdo and thought I'd just share this with you! LOL

Once upon a time...

there was a spark, a moment when I thought (encouraged by my 11th grade English teacher)that I had a voice, a writer's voice. That spark was diminished by my hero, turned alcoholic dad, which led me away from anything that resembled personal joy or aspirations. Funny how we let other's opinons become our own.

But that was a long, long time ago...a daughter whose father would awaken her with verses of Edgar Allen Poe or Lewis Carrol as a child, and worships the written word woven into a story, a tale of lives lived in metaphors and reality, and reads with relish. I express my interpretations of life unfolding everyday on paper (always in pencil), and hope that one day someone will want to put my words to press. Until that day comes, I will write for the pure joy of chronicling my view of the world. What an enlightening journey.

Recently an empty nester (working on recovery...rotten deal this job of raising children only to have them get a life of their own)and putting all that free time to writing, researching, teaching yoga, and traveling with my high school sweetheart, turned hubby, turned soul mate. Not a bad life, but I could use some snow...

kforkids...aka, Kat

ps~many thanks to the CL's of the short story board...you hold up our inspirations and wobbly aspirations with your encouraging critiques and kudos!
