Here's my five

1) What book(s) are you currently reading?

hahah! NONE! I have a 3 month old. ;-)

2) Do you mostly have painted walls or wallpapered ones in your home?

Mostly paint. When I first moved into this house (it was my husband's before we got married), I took a look around at the boring walls and decided it needed help. We painted our bedroom an avocado (sounds yucky, but it's really very nice); the baby's room is blue (what else?); the office was supposed to be tan but turned out peach (darn Home Depot); and the hallway and kitchen are a light tan. I put up a border in the kitchen that is very...kitcheny. I don't know how to describe it other than it has pottery on it. It's very cute. The living room has paneling and our two bathrooms have wallpaper.

3) When was the last time that you went to the theater? What movie did you see?

I was 8 months pregnant and we went to see Planet of the Apes. It was also our 3rd wedding anniversary - so it was August 5. :-) (I had a HUGE pickle, popcorn and then ice cream later...talk about swollen ankles.. yikes!)

4) What is your favorite fruit?

STRAWBERRIES.. I love 'em! Especially with sugar.

5) Picking one famous writer (dead or living), who would you like to have dinner with?

Hmm.... I think I'd pick Stephen King simply because he is a genius. I'd love to pick his brain.

Thanks for the book idea (m)

I checked out Man Made of Words on Amazon. Being part Native American, it struck my interest so I added it to my wish list. Are you enjoying it?

I've never tried Yoga (m)

What do you suggest for a beginner? I've seen several videos that look intriquing.

Hello Mac, and since you asked...(m)

I've always been an overactive exercise nut, and then after about 25 years of slamming my knees and back into pulp from running and step aerobics, I said, "Man, there has got to be another way!" Plus, my very young father died unexpectly and that sent my spirit into a tail spin. Exercise had always drove off unhappy or unexplained feelings. But not this time. I was needing more. So on a whim, I bought a yoga tape. Tried it at home a few times, thought I was getting the full benefit, until one day a good friend of mine who belonged to a different healthclub told me about a new yoga teacher there, and how amazing she was. I took her class once, and joined the healthclub.

Tapes REALLY don't do the job. Yoga is about the marriage of mind, body, and spirit. First, you work on aligning and strengthening the body through deep breathing and held postures. After about 2 to 4 years ( and don't let this scare you) you begin to move beyond the power of the body and in to the depths of your mind, and then one day you sense the spirit in you like never before. It is through practice and awareness that great things happen. I thought I was this "MS. FITNESS CHICK", until I started practicing yoga. Now all I do is yoga, and walking. Honoring the body, giving space for the spirit, and mind to support and counter each other.

The answer to your question--find a beginner yoga class. The teacher should be aware and sensitive, and patient. The class overall should have a feel of peace but alert energy. Most yoga centers or healthclubs will allow you to try for a week free. I would say to try the classes at least twice before committing. Give it a try. It is a wonderful fit to a writer's lifestyle. Takes us to a place of inner quite so the real thing can enter in...plus gets us up and out of the chair!!

Sorry you asked???

Good day Mac! Kat

A log cabin...(m)

Oh how I envy you. One day, hopefully not too far off in my future, I too hope to live in a cabin in the Rockies. My heart belongs there and every turn of the season I sense it in my bones. My spirit sings to go home. We're working on it.

Thanks for sharing Mac. kat
