whoops, it's Sunday, I'm late

1) What book(s) are you currently reading? I've got to get to the library! I've just finished "Slammerkin" by Emma Donoghue and "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. Both terrific. And I reread "Notes from a Small Island" by Bill Bryson. I'd lent it over a year ago to someone at work who had retired and confessed to me that she thought she'd packed it, but would find it and mail it back. Ha. Found it in a drawer in her desk. So it was a welcome back re-read. And just as funny.

2) Do you mostly have painted walls or wallpapered ones in your home? Painted. The paint job begun last Easter is still monumentally unfinished. No wallpaper. I mean, someone who can't even slap on a bit of paint in a timely fashion is NOT going to attempt anything involving rocket science, or least taste and skill.

3) When was the last time that you went to the theater? What movie did you see? I saw the Harry Potter movie on Thanksgiving Day. It was fabulous, altho my 17 year old daughter who knows the books much better than I do, was disappointed. And I've just seen "The Magic Flute" three times for work (a real, live opera at a different sort of theater).

4) What is your favorite fruit? Mangoes. They are so messy and delicious. One of those things you do alone at home.

5) Picking one famous writer (dead or living), who would you like to have dinner with? Michael Ondaatje, I think he's so sexy. Oops. Bill Bryson, Jane Austen

Thanks Kat for the info (m)

I live in a pretty rural area so I'd be surprised if we have a yoga center. But I'm going to check it out. This definitely sounds like something I'd like.

My five(m)

1) What book(s) are you currently reading?

"Petrographs and Petroglyphs of Missouri", "The Good Old Days at Its Best" and "Ozark Pioneering Spirit" (Ozarks history), "The Sound of the Mountain" (novel) and "Palm-of-the-Hand Stories" (short stories) both by Yasunari Kawabata who received the Nobel prize for literature in 1968.

2) Do you mostly have painted walls or wallpapered ones in your home?

I live in an apartment with "apartment white" walls, but I have a lot of family pictures on the various walls and favorite little treasures on shelves in my living room that provide spots of color. I also collect little tins with interesting patterns on them, and my office has one wall covered in books (LOL) and another covered with maps of Springfield (1862 and 2000) and Missouri.

3) When was the last time that you went to the theater? What movie did you see?

I suspect it was when we took the boys to see ET back in 1982.

4) What is your favorite fruit?

Kiwi, strawberries, or bananas (or all three).

5) Picking one famous writer (dead or living), who would you like to have dinner with?

Dr. Oliver Sacks or Isaac Asimov.

I didn't realize he wrote (m)

The English Patient but I agree anyone who can write a piece of work like that is sexy.

What type of tins do you collect? (m)

Like ones that held candies, soaps, etc? Sounds interesting and probably something that's fun to collect.

I think some of them did at one time, but(m)

sometimes I just see an empty one in a store somewhere and think it has a pretty pattern. (I like things with interesting patterns. I even bought a little Japanese imari style plate because i loved the pattern.)

It is fun and they add little spots of color to my boring white walls.

great apes

I actually hadn't seen the original until about 2 years ago. There's nothing quite like seeing Charlton Heston hamming it up in a loincloth. And of course it's fun to say "IT'S A MADHOUSE, A MADHOUSE!!" whenever the opportunity arises.

The remake is quite different. About the only thing the two have in common is the basic premise of a man landing on a planet of talking apes who rule over everything.

They're actually both pretty good movies, from what I remember. Then again I like rubber suited monster movies. Ramona
